It's the first step.
Many folks think as Senator Cruz does on the issue. But this is how the Left operates. Start local on a bullshite piece of legislation, get ridiculed, reply to the ridicule with more of the same and eventually it happens. Hate speech laws are violations of the very nature of the First Amendment.
There are enough tools out there, virtue signalling, and what have you, to shame or shut down anyone in their lives without needing to resort to prosecution, too.

"Hate speech" is among the most important to protect although I hardly think this qualifies. If we don't, everything people don't like hearing will just be labeled as hate speech.

San Antonio is infested with "La Raza" "The Race" Hispanic politicians and lots of SJW's. Its almost as bad as the liberal "University of Texas" educated shitheads that win elections in Austin.
A significant portion of San Antonio is below the poverty line, barley speaks English if at all, and votes for those buffoons as long as free community services keeping rolling in.
