70 here, supposed to get to 82 but this forest fire smoke might keep it down.

Terribly warm for this time of year. Its' been mid 70's to low 80's every day for a week. I'm ready for fall.

We hit 80 a few times last week. Luckily the high is supposed to be in the 70's for at least the next 10 days.

Like if you turn off the ac and leave for work how much does your house heat up?

It really depends on your house and you're right about insulation being a factor. My main house is not insulated that great. It's got a lot of windows and some of them are old. My house would get awfully hot and humid if I turned off the AC during the day. It's also not good for the AC in that situation. Ask your AC guy.

On the other hand, I have a large add on laundry room with a full bath, large walk-in closet and storage area. Recently built and has no windows. It has a separate AC unit. With the AC off, it has never gotten over about 80 degrees. With the heat off, it has never gotten below the lower 60's. Humidity has not been an issue at all, but I'm not sure why not. I guess it's the insulation and no windows. I leave it off sometimes, which how I know this.

AC guy was here giving the units and the house a seasonal check up. He told me to at least keep the AC on at about 78, so it runs a bit. He said it wasn't a good idea to leave it turned off, particularly in the summer.

I wouldn't turn your AC off when you leave, but I think you are on the right track looking into better insulation.

I also took the ceiling out of a big sunroom a few months ago and replaced the gazillion windows which were leaking air. It has a low roof, so there wasn't much space for more insulation, but they were able to put some sort of good stuff up there. I took out a few windows completely and added insulation to the walls. That room got so hot in the summer regardless of the temp the AC was on. It would get up to 85. Now, it's the coolest room in the house. I wish I could replace all the windows in the rest of the house. What a difference that made.

Anything over 85 is considered an intense heat wave here.

If leave my ac set to 71 during the day, I'll come home and it'll be 74 in the house and the ac running. It literally runs all day because it can't cool the house.

I turn it up to 77 and then it doesn't run all day. I turn it to 70 when I get home.

I'm no expert, but you may want to walk that duct out. I had one room doing similar. I went up in that attic and it looked like the Dishnetwork installer stepped on and crushed that duct. Had to get that one replaced, but it solved that problem.

This year has been an anomaly though. Usually blue skies and highs in the 80's by now.

Like Roger said, 85 is a different animal when you don't have AC (like most people here).

I was born in the wrong place. I'm half Scottish and French and don't think my genetics were meant for this type of heat.

Plus the days are long..
Longest warm streak I can remember. Usually only a day or two.

After this spell, we will start sliding into fall though.

That's usually not until September here. Can't get here soon enough. I really hate the summer anymore.

Usually temps start to creep down a bit about the middle of July. By the first week of August you can really feel it.
