Well, first of all, I would have advised you to learn about the breed before deciding to get one, but since you didn't you should probably be aware of puppies in general.

They are full of energy and will get into anything and everything they can. They will want to chew on everything so make sure you have chew sticks/bones in stock. It will keep them somewhat occupied so they are not going around looking for shite to get into.

They are almost like having kids. They will be full of energy so at least take some time out of the day to wear her arse out.

But this is a link to the golden retrievers on the akc website. Should tell you just about all you need to know.

Dude I knew most of what all goes into goldens. I was mainly asking for things people have done and it has worked for them. Not basic info like that bud.

They are one of the sweetest and most loyal dogs out there. They love attention. I miss my girl everyday. Lost her last January! You are blessed to have her.

Train it's arse off the first year. They can get hyper as hell, but you can control it with good training. They also shed like crazy.

As a puppy, take them out every couple of hours to pee. This will not only keep them from using the bathroom inside, but it also teaches them where they are supposed to use the bathroom. Be very dilligent with your schedule and they will learn very quickly. They are incredibly smart animals and sometimes this can lead to stubbornness, but Goldens, probably more than any other breed, aim to please.

Let them be a dog. If you know of a location with a pond, take them there early and often. I don't think I've met a Golden that doesn't LOVE water. Mine won't come out when I take him, he just sits there.

Buy some fish oil pills to add to his food at every meal. My Golden gets so many compliments on how shiny his coat is and it helps with dry skin and shedding(you'll be surprised by the difference). It's a plus that it's good for their heart.

Goldens are known for having allergies. I try to stay away from foods with chicken and shampoo with fragrances/chemicals.

They are in the top 10 of most cancer prone dogs breeds (according to PetMD) and top 3 in lymphoma (I think).

Labs and Goldens are cancer factories.

Sad, but true.

Ive got a golden that turned 6 months yesterday. He is awesome. I trained him hard for the first 3 months after I got him but the last month with the holidays and some other stuff it fell off some. Theya re very smart but can be stubborn as puppies and have a shite ton of energy. Also accept the fact now it will pee in your house no matter how hard you try until it is trained and it will also get into a few things/chew a few things no matter how many chew toys it has.

Right now I am working on getting mine to stop being aggressive when i need him to come with me or do something and also from scratching at the back door to come in. Train em well and they will turn out great though.

They are good dogs. Smart but a little quirky. Very good with kids. Shed and dig like a mofo. They aren't smart as a lab, generally speaking, but the can make a fine retriever. They are very tender hearted. You can't beat the shite out of them like you can a lab. They'll freak out.

I may be biased but one of the best breeds out there. I have a 5 year old who is the best dog I've owned. He was a bit "hyper" as a puppy but eventually grew out of it. He will be calm when we are just hanging out but still likes to have fun when it's warranted. Mine has never met a stranger so they're great around other people/dogs. They do shed but it's not that much of an inconvenience. Watch out for him/her getting bored because that's when they'll get into mischief

Well FWIW I have found my goldens are more sensitive than other dogs. They bounce back quick, but they can really stress out if they think you're unhappy with them.
