What percentage of people who you interact with only want to talk about themselves?

It is an old Southern man trick to get info from others without sharing anything about yourself. But holy shite it seems like it is just a steady stream of ‘me me me’ from other people lately.

I mean at a point in the conversation you can tell they are trying to steer the discussion back to themselves.

I often do this. I'm a very interesting person. I have interesting things to say. I think people realize this. I know they do. I say interesting things.

Funny you should ask, I was playing poker with some friends of mine and we had the exact same conversation.

One way of looking at is that people don't know how to listen to others so they just don't. Another way of thinking about is people don't really know how to talk about things without making about them.

Im not sure which it is

BTW I won big that night and walked away a winner

I know someone who is a pretty cool guy but will not stop and listen to anything you try to tell him you did. Either cooking, hunting, fishing, funny story, etc. But let home have a story,,,you better bring a pillow.

Just let them roll with it. Folks like that often go into topics you probably don't want floated around in public anyhow.

I don't know what's worse. People who always talk about themselves or people who can't pick up the fact that you're trying to end the conversation.

My ex was like that, and she wondered why 10months in she knew "nothing" about me. First due to....

....then due to her always bringing it back to herself.

I've only had one friend actually call me out in my ability to avoid anything about myself. "Dude we can sit for hours at the bar, and talk and you said nothing about yourself". Ha.

But enough about my concerns; what do you think of my vast accomplishments?...

My dad does this and he just turned 70 and has done it his whole life. I can tell him that I just won the lottery or my kid just saved the world and he will barely acknowledge and tell me about the fish he caught.

The older i get the more apparent it is to me that very few people genuinely want to hear other people’s shite. The vast majority only want to talk about themselves in some way, shape, or form. Another thing I’m realizing is that it has pretty much always been this way if I really think back on it. Only people I recall who ever really seemed interested in hearing my shite were 2 of my grandparents. Other than that, nada.
