It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, its the model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

On Louisiana state contract a Chevy Tahoe police car is 33,632.

A Dodge charger is 24,900...

Difference is 8,732.

The difference is the cost per mile. From experience The Dodge charger is much higher maintenance than the Ford and Chevy SUVs. The flooding in Louisiana is also a part of the switch to SUVs, due to the location of the intake on the charger.

The Tahoe's and other SUVs also have a higher resale value when they can't be used for police work anymore.

The chargers go through suspensions and radiators 3xs faster than any of the SUVs.

I'm gonna say less than 50%, and the vast majority of those SUV's are the explorers. A lot of county cops use explorers, but almost all the locals have chargers.

I think most departments are gradually moving to Explorers. Supposedly they're more cost effective than Chargers.

It cost more to stay in a full sized SUV. Everything wears faster because of the weight of the vehicle. Also consumes more fuel but I really wasn't talking about that. This is a funny point to pick apart from my post.

Studies have actually shown the MPGs are comparable

Especially with the ecoboost in the Explorer.

LOL at anyone thinking a Charger is anything resembling fuel efficient.

Tahoe PPV was like $28k on state contract back in 2015 when I last saw. Not bad really.

Big assortment in Lincoln Parish. I see more of the Ford Explorers, but see quite a few Tahoes, some Crown Vic's, some F-150's and have seen a guy serving warrants in a Ford Fusion.

The Ruston PD has a higher percentage of Tahoes, or they're used for certain tasks, that makes it appear that way. That's nearly always what you see out giving tickets on I-20.

They have a slick looking Canine unit.

They may have more of these than I think there are, but I never see them on the road.

I always was a fan of the Ford Fusion. A truly great police car.
