40% a decade ago

20% now

By 2030 we are hoping for 5%

Companies like DSLD and DR Horton can build a house these days for the same price of what a manufactured home cost.

I live in one. Sold my house 3 years ago, got 4 acres of land, and put a single wide (easier to resale) on it.

Once my kids are out of daycare ($1300/month), we'll build.

I have no regrets.

We have thought about selling the house and buying alot of acreage with a manufactured home on it.

Prices on good manufactured homes are not that cheap these days.

I rented trailers for a couple of semesters in college. One was awesome, the other leaked. Either way, I preferred trailers to apartments or dorm rooms.

Some of the "manufactured homes" you see nowadays don't really look like trailers if you're just driving by. I checked out the Clayton Homes website and these things have granite, beam ceilings, etc.- pretty crazy.

For real, when I first got married, we bought a trailer. Back in those days, interest rates for houses was above 14%. We lived in that trailer for about two years till I finished building our first house.

When we sold that house, we rented a trailer till I finished building the second house.

I agree. It's supposed to be 84 today. This blows.

Yeah, I thought it was gonna be nice and brisk this morning so I went to have coffee on the patio. Wasn't too pleased when I got out there.

Supposed to have lows in the 40s the next few nights but it's still going to be in the 70s during the day. I'd rather have highs in the 40s in November.

Does anyone care about manufactured homes? That thing looks decent and has a freaking garage.

Mobile homes on wheels are what we make fun of around here.

With the cost of housing and rent, seems like a more viable option than ever.

Recently divorced, ex and I are selling our 3500+ sq ft home with four acres. I plan to take my proceeds and build an 850 sq ft barndominium. I’ll retire debt free in four years.

I have a buddy in central FL that just sold his mobile home and moved to rural Maine.

Curious, what does he do for a living to make such an extreme change in location? That seems like almost going off the grid.

Correct. Seems MH are improving in quality, and stick built homes are decreasing in quality. At one time newer high end homes had brick. Not anymore.
