That’s why billions of people have believed in a higher power, an afterlife, and an immortal soul. Somehow as humans we naturally know that there’s more to us than bags of bones and flesh walking around.

Mutating is a more accurate term than devolving.
Eta and “degrading” is a pretty careless term to use in general.
"Mutation" NEVER improves a biological entity -- especially human beings. Mutations are defects. OR...degradation. (This inevitability is one main reason the world's genetic scientists are scrambling around and scrounging for SUPERIOR DNA samples.)
Man as well as ALL of nature's DNA is constantly degrading -- literally. Again -- if one prefers to use "Science's" own explanation for the decay and inevitable chaos of order of all things, I'd refer to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
Between the eons-old natural radiation of the sun's rays, chemical-environmental toxins, unseen EMF assaults, the oxidation of man's very DNA is rapidly degrading badly. (just in time for The End Times)

there are many animals that die when giving birth, how is that not selfless?
It’s selfless when the host chooses not to survive the birth process at the expense of the offspring. Sometimes genetics doesn’t allow for that choice.
Edited because I forgot the key word “not”

I wonder how he came to the conclusion that evolution is discredited by selflessness.
Color me skeptical regarding anything that evolutionists teach. The entire endeavor has existed to make rational sense of the mysteriousness of human life and love, and it’s a whopping 150 or so years old.
There’s no way that they couldn’t say that it’s about selflessness as a species. They’re absolutely backed into a firm corner while the other side’s answers are all-satisfying (unless you wanna frick someone other than your wife and it be ok…).
At that point, you ditch the religion and start believing in nonsense, random chance, and lack of free will.

That is a strong statement that is blatantly false.
quote:
Mutations are defects. OR...degradation.
Mutation is an acute change in genetic makeup.
Degradation is a chronic deterioration of genetic makeup.

Truth be told, we are spirit beings with eternal existence.
The only question is if you choose or reject your Creator. He has made a way where there was no way.
Your body is simply a perishable vehicle that allows you a window of earth time to make that choice.

I will never understand how anyone can be so certain of this considering so much of what we experience can’t be explained by chemistry and physics.
I’m not saying you have to believe in a higher power, but it’s hubris to believe everything that you have and will ever experience is explainable with a base of knowledge that we already have, which is what you’re saying when you make statements like, “all we are is ___”.

I like to think if we were created by a higher power, he wouldve did a better job. But I know he isn't responsible for any of the shitty behavior, that's all the work of the devil.
he was powerful enough to make us all, but the devil has the power to frick us all up

Christians have the ability to believe in freedom and that we messed it up.

Oh so he just enjoys fricking with us?
I believe in a higher power as well, just not this humanlike God figure preached by the church. Whatever created the events that led to us being here, didn't create them with us in mind.

There are a lot of shitty churches out there. If you were to find one that preached the beauty of Christ well, really emphasizing the reason behind his humanity, then you might agree that it’s the best story ever told.

Maybe, but by whose definition?

I know this might be eye-roll inducing, but if one believes that the higher power is the ultimate level of good and can be no better, everything outside of that high power has to be worse by definition. Even things that the higher power creates.
