Not worth it. And the worse part of it we would have a state full of potheads

$260 million could pay for a lot of sewer pipes or roads in Louisiana. Even half that would be awesome.

But we have to actually legalize it, not just decriminalize it. Bring the revenue for sale to the state and not let local law enforcement and local DA's collect the fines when they pull people over for possession.

If it's only going to be a fine now to have small amounts, then it's not really serious enough to be illegal. They should just make it illegal and let state and local governments tax its consumption like they do for everything else.

If they can legalize it before Texas does, it would be a huge boost to the tourism economy IMO.

First, there is already a lot of recreational marijuana consumers all over the country...including Louisiana.

Federal legalization is coming. If you are the first state in your region to legalize it, you get a jump on the production and more revenue capture over your neighbors.

Louisiana needs to legalize it, and do so before Mississippi and Texas.

Well this shite ain't true. Nobody wants to wait for Dave to get off work anymore. They'd rather go into a dispensary with rewards points that looks like an apple store. Trust me on that shite.

It would help by freeing up money in the budget and the creation of a few cannabis related businesses. It's not going to save us just like gambling didn't save us. Most states will have some sort of decriminalization in the next decade.

General people’s lack of knowledge on this subject is astounding. Everyone’s got an opinion but less than half actually know what they’re talking about.

hardly any.... the taxes would come in and end up in some slush fund or pet project and we'd wonder why our roads suck and our taxes are so high

None. Government would overtax it, and then waste all the revenue on political paybacks and more government projects.

We have the most government employees of any state per capita, and the taxes to match. I wonder why everything is so messed up in this state.

HB652 is a good start, but HB699 is the one you want to look at. That's the one that Rep. Nelson introduced for recreational usage. It was supposed to be debated Monday, then today, and now pushed back to 5/18

Just make it legal.

How did we evolve from revolting against the King over taxes to expecting every single thing in our lives to be taxed multiple times?!

Sounds like Alaska. Over regulation keeps the black market alive.

Exactly. The idea of paying for the privilege of smoking/eating a plant from the same people that made it illegal in the first place boggles my mind.
