My town is named for a Taffy company owner from Kentucky who bought the plantation in the area.

He bought it to raise sugar cane for him taffy making in Kentucky, eventually he started giving tracts of the land to his loyal worker and some slaves.

Joe Juneau. His relatives founded Juneau, Wisconsin.

His mining partner was Richard Harris. The town was originally named Harrisburg, Harris left town for a short time, Juneau bought everyone drinks as a bribe to change the town name.

Poydras was first settled in the 18th century by Isleños when Louisiana was a Spanish colony. Presumably, the town is named for Julien Poydras.

Red Stick..... which of course is offensive to Native Americans because we stole their land. We should change it to Sterling City

Cut Off, LA

History Cut Off had its start by the building of a canal cutoff at that point from Bayou Lafourche northeast to Lake Salvador, to shorten the route to New Orleans. The name (La Coupe, or "The Cut") was French in origin.

There is a town called Slap Out, AL.

I dont know if it's true, but the story goes that originally there was just a little grocery store out there and any time customers would come in looking for something, the store was always "Slap Out" of what you wanted.

There has to be someone here from Dry Prong who can explain that one.

Or Coochie, Coon, and Bawcomville.

Named after Lawrence (Larry) Metairie, the first one-armed Ju-jitsu world champion, back in 1898.

Look it up.
