Costco Auto Insurance

I may be incorrect as I'm not a Costco member, but I believe Costco is simply acting as the broker

You know what you’re talking about.

Question: been with Chubb a number of years but have two teen drivers. Older one got a low points ticket and a minor wreck this last year that totaled his old arse car annd paid some indemnity. Expecting to get hosed.

We have good limits and small umb. Just replaced home roof so new shingles. I’m ready to quote combined package.

Who would be your best recommendation for combined home and auto given above. Chubb has been great with claims but this shite is about to get real.

SC risk.

Ticket and accident often make finding a cheaper policy difficult.
More often than not, it grandfathers your existing policy lower than what the marketplace offers (your existing policy may have a 15-20% surcharge to the base rate. A new policy often may have a 40-60% higher base rate with the driving history).

If you have an independent agent with Chubb, they can shop your renewal.
If not, try an independent at renewal. They may find something better.

If not, shop when the accident is 36 months old. And again at 60 months.

The new roof will definitely help. An independent agent may find a better home quote if losing the multipolicy discount doesn't offset the savings.

Got it.

If paying your insurance premiums is fricking you in the arse, yes.

I'm sorry you have to be a grown-up.

It seems that you cared enough to comment.
Makes you come across as a douchebag, but you will probably say that you don't care.

My agent keeps track of it and let's me know if there is a better deal. She got me to switch from Safeco to Progressive recently and saved me about $700.

Get a quote for a new policy online. It’ll ask you if you are already a progressive customer, click yes. Get the quote, put date to start before old policy expires.

We used Jerry and got a great discount. I thought it was a joke because no way Progressive would allow them to give us a better rate.

I had Progressive for 2 - 3 years, then my renewal went up over $1,000 when I'd had no claims.

On the advice of a friend, I called Shelter and got a rate that was less than Progressive before the massive increase.

Call Frank Landry in Zachary. The worst that can happen is that you decide to stay with Progressive.

Progressive can suck a turd. The worst.

On the Agency channel, they are great.

Ive asked around. It sounds like they have this "online shopper discount" which gives them a better rate than the agency channel. But at the first renewal, the discount falls off completely.

I am hearing that it is consistently a $150/ 6 month teaser discount ($300/yr). That is a pretty shitty way to get business.

You’ve got to shop them every six months.

We saved 1900 a year on vehicles moving to Allstate.

Then We bundled our home and saved 10 a month.

Had been with farm bureau a long time, but no loyalty these days sorry.

Have an independent agent

They automatically shop around every renewal

I also shop state farm myself because they cant shop that. State Farm actually came back cheapest last renewal. Geico was cheapest for auto

Incorrect. Maybe for the company you are with but weve changed 4 times in 2.5 years and it keeps going down with same coverage and copay

I'd never shopped mine out, was with Allstate for well over a decade with auto and homeowners. Then ~6 months ago was in a no-fault accident where a drunk driver hit us head on, his policy limits didn't cover the value of the vehicle so I had to go through the process of filing with Allstate. The entire claims process with them was a headache from Day 1, dragging their feet, non-responsive to communications, then undervalued our vehicle by ~$7000, had to fight them on it and took them nearly 3 months to finally pay out. Allstate will never see another dime from me.

Ended up swapping to State Farm, our homeowners went up ~$250 annually but our auto went down nearly $200/month.

Shop around every 6 months. Go with cheapest rate to be legal. Pay in full. Don’t drive like an a-hole.

It would be lower if you were with your current company over 3 years.

It would be lower than that if you were with your current company over 5 years.

It would be lower than that if you were with your current company over 10 years.

That's how math works (20% discount is greater than a 15% discount is greater than a 10% discount).

I am not telling people "not to switch". But switching for small savings is counterproductive. You are costing yourself money by not waiting for 2 or 3 years at a minimum.

I do.

They try and frick you otherwise.

It’s somewhat of a hassle but in my exotic saves me between $200-400/mo in some cases.

I am not a fan of 'the lowest rate'. I also don't believe in jumping around. A local attorney once told me "if you want to be sued carry Allstate auto insurance". He said Allstate is known to 'never' settle an auto case. I talk to my local independent agent once a year to get a feeling for the current market.
