The first part of your post was spot on. Then for some reason you went full retard. Do you understand how gentrification works? Hipsters and artisan coffee shops are among the first to move into a 'gentrified' neighborhood and to start changing its makeup.

I once made an argument that Martin Luther King Day should be changed to Civil Rights Day because the cause that he stood for and worked for is so much bigger than one person. Rosa Parks, the Little Rock 9, Ruby Bridges, the sit-ins, and everyone else that fought for it deserved recognition too. I was called a racist for that, I just gave up.

you can't call what groups the size of city populations do racist. there are just too many individual variables.
now a lot of members of that group might have been racists, but they were thinking of themselves. they weren't moving out to Metairie or Chalmette thinking "let's screw the black people." it just kind of happened like that. they wanted a better house and more land.

Of course, they're buying up spots in the FQ and Uptown, not the wrong side of St Claude. Same basic concept, right? It's still people with lots of money buying houses from locals - that's the definition of gentrification.
