My '19 Ram was totaled a few weeks ago, but instead of replacing it I bought a used '20 Toyota Corolla. Cost me right around 40 bucks to fill up instead of $90 plus that I was paying to fill the truck. I commute 50 miles each way to work, and right now I'm working 7 days a week.

My breaking point is not the relevant question.

The relevant question is what is the breaking point for other people in sufficient numbers to stop watching Saturday sports long enough to go vote in every election to stop this and many other kinds of BS?

I hope gas gets to $1 more per gallon past this point.

To do what?

Stop driving altogether?
Cut back driving?
Burn down gas stations?
Take violent action against politicians?

I have two breaking points.

1. When I stop driving for entertainment. Last two weekends my son and I drove an hour each way to go fishing in my boat. This limit is probably about 7 to 8 dollars per gallon. But I can see a point where the family goes to school, work, the grocery store and no where else.

2. When I stop going to work. It takes me about 1.5 gallons of gas to go work and home. Gas would have to hit 50 dollars a gallon for me to consider looking for a closer job.

Gas hitting people’s breaking point 1 will kill the economy. Many jobs rely on people driving to get their product or using their service.

I don't think I could afford to pay $500 a gallon and drive to work. I think that would be a breaking point on continuing to work.

The diesel and Jet A prices are going to be the most important ones.

My prediction is once we are over 5 bucks a gallon it will start to alter the average consumers driving habits. Less travel for vacations or joy riding. Look at consolidating ones errands. At 6 bucks the economy will crater and their will be bigger problems. Investing in lead is your best bet at the moment.

I'm just glad I ain't the one buying the gas for my work truck, I filled it up Thursday and even though it had a quarter tank it still took $125 to fill it up. And at 7 MPG that full tank doesn't go but so far.

You haven't lived until you've experienced filling up a 135 gallon diesel tank AND a 100 gallon boat gas tank with your personal card at these prices. Makes fishing awfully unattractive.
