Over the past few months the wife and I have been giving serious thought to where we will be in 5 or so years.

The most important part of that plan is getting out of Louisiana. We have young kids, family close, and both have good jobs. Those are the only things keeping us from moving on right now.

We have settled on most likely Montana or Wyoming as our next destination.

I love our life in Louisiana. But we will probably move back to Huntsville in the next five years.

Sucky thing is I’d be chunking a teacher retirement out the window.

Move out of NYC, continue to accumulate performance shares at my company, and pray the market doesn't tank.

Does your plan include winning the lottery? Cause both those places are kind of expensive and there ain’t a Whole lotta jobs up there.

I'm really dreading the hemorrhoids. Not getting those and getting my kid out of the house as a functional human being are both pretty up there.

As someone who left Louisiana over a decade ago, having family close with small kids is pretty awesome. Don’t overlook that

Push the net worth past 4 mil and have financial independence looming on the horizon of the next five years.

Survive what will be 3 teenagers living under my roof by then. OTOH, in 10 years they’ll all be in college, and Ms. FCP and I can finally get around to doing some more traveling.

Send them to LSMSA and they will be out sooner.

I have it pretty good here in Baton Rouge. My job is interesting and pays well plus I have a backup in case that fell through for some reason. So, in principle my plan is to stay here and enjoy what life has given me. Moving is a young man's game.

However, I have little kids and I can't help but think I'm doing them a disservice by having them grow up here.

I'd probably move to Austin/RR in a few years if the right opportunity presented itself.

I'm 72. My serious thought as to where I want to be in 5 years or so is above ground in decent health.

Are you fairly young? Otherwise I wouldn't throw my retirement out of the window if you aren't miserable where you are.

I have the same plan as you. Can't convince my wife Montana or Wyoming. I tried. Most likely Tennessee.

If one wants to leave Louisiana but remain within a 10 or so hour drive back to Louisiana, there are plenty of viable options.
