Is it too much to ask someone to be professional and let me know that they will not be making their schedule interview?

Businesses ghost candidates too, FWIW.

As long as they have interviews set up, they can show they are trying and don’t have to get off unemployment and welfare

We have this problem too. These aren’t entry level people either. These are physical , speech, and occupational therapists who went through 6-7 years of school. Just shoot a text or something as opposed to completely ghosting. It’s not ultra professional but at least we can then move on interview wise.

Yea- I get it for a cashier or waiter. Unprofessional but whatever. For smaller industries with higher barriers to entry it boggles my mind that anyone would want to burn bridges over something like this. A simple: I’ve had a change in situation and apologize for needing to cancel the interview. You have a great organization and I hope we have another chance to connect in the future… takes 15 seconds and sets you apart from the idiots.

I’ll agree the process is totally broken on both sides in many industries.

I enjoy the idea that for 50k jobs you have to upload a resume, then reformat the info into their system, then often take personality tests… and in some fields proceed to video taping answers to interview questions… all without getting to talk to a human about the job itself, or culture or… and maybe you get a call back after all that to come do an in person during industry standard business hours on short notice.

I feel for a lot of middle management folks trying to get ahead.

Fair enough. I didn't mean to dog you about it. Sounds like you're working hard and doing it right.

Hope things get better, but the way the country is going lately it's probably going to be along time before we see improvement in anyone or anything.

This is a big problem with the younger generation. No accountability, no responsibility, job hoppers for minimal raises, never actually learn or do anything.

I never ghost people. If I take another offer I let everyone else know.

I don't want to waste their time. I also want to give their next choice an opportunity to interview.

I've lowered my expectations to the point where people annoy me less in this regard.

These shitheads are being flippant about it. In the near future they’re gonna wish they’d followed through the interview.

Most employers don’t treat people who apply with any courtesy or respect. Often they don’t even do people who interview the courtesy of letting them know they didn’t get the job. People have started returning the favor.

I’m convinced most people are crazy. I think sane people with common sense are a rare breed.
Half the people at work are straight up nuts.

But come interview day, only 1 or 2 show up.

I'm currently without a Dining Services Director. And I am short cooks and servers. So, I've been following up with people who apply from Indeed and ZipRecruiter.

This is my experience as well. I had a confirmed interview to meet with a person who wanted a server position. Our meeting was set for Tuesday. She didn't show up. She didn't call to cancel. She didn't even call to apologize.

Today, she sent me a text asking me to reschedule the interview. I told her no and said if she wanted the job but had something come up, she could have notified me. But she chose not to, which shows me that she wasn't really interested in working for us.

Why give someone a second chance when they have shown that they can't be trusted or reliable?

Instead, they'll just make money off you and me --- and the rest of the people who work.
