I frist used "cis" and "trans" in chemistry decades ago.
I was initially confused when I heard it used in the context of gender.

I refuse to try to learn any of the never-ending new trendy labels the crazies create for gender and sexual preferences, and I'll never use them. I've heard "cis" in the media for the past couple years and never knew what it meant until I read this thread. Apparently it means your the gender you were born as? Well cool, everybody is. It's just insanity. Also give zero credence to "identifies as". Born with a penis? Male. Born with a vagina? Female. Have sex with opposite sex? Hetero. Sex with same sex? Homo.

I appreciate the irony of the trans community adding a word to describe normal folks after all that time trying to convince us that they were normal men and women just like us. When cis is a descriptor for a regular old man or woman, it's impossible for a trans man or woman to be seen as a regular old man or woman. Obviously that wasn't ever what they wanted.
