Cardinal Inn near Opelousas

2nd would be outside the DMV on the Westbank in the middle of winter, waiting to get my license plate back.

I was 17 or 18 years old. North LA. Middle of nowhere in an abandoned house. My dad just got this new hunting lease up there right before deer season. So I go up there during Xmas holidays to hunt for a few days. Stayed in the tent with a propane heater the 1st few nights so wasn't bad. 2nd to last night, it starts pouring raining and temperature dropped to the teens. Everything is wet in the tent, but heater was safe so wasn't horrible. Then the heater runs out and were screwed.

No car by the way. Had to park on other side of a river and take a boat across. So my Dad says there is an abandoned house in decent shape a mile away. We start hiking there and I'm beyond pissed. It's pretty much sleeting at this point. Get to the house, kick door down, and it's disgusting. An inch of dirt covers everything, smelt like death, snake skins all over the place, etc. But a fireplace. Start busting up whatever furniture and wood we find to get it going. Finally have a decent fire, but not doing much because there is holes all over the place in this house and the temp is in the teens and sleeting outside. Rats, squirrels, rodents, etc are running all over the place.

Didn't sleep. Both of us left that morning at dawn and never went back to that place. Shocked we didn't catch some type of disease or sickness from that place.

2nd worst was on a random shore in grand isle when motor busted on the boat in middle of summer. Heat, mosquitoes, and sand are a brutal combo with no shelter.

Colorado Inn. Canon City, CO.

Sink was in front of the bed with the TV on it. Room rate was just some random number the manager decided on partly based on number of guest. Buddies and I slept in our sleeping bags. Short straw had to sleep on the floor.

I'm pretty sure murder porns were filmed there.

Staying at the Baytown Inn and Suites in Gulfport MS for my sons swim meet. Just overheard a strange conversation in the lobby. We made a late reservation and everywhere else was booked. This place is a dump but I had no idea until just now. Manager just told someone over the phone, "I know it is gross but you paid 2 dollars for the room. I can't leave the front desk I am the only one on duty. Call back Monday morning."

Must be a hell of a shithole, cause I've lived here all my life and never heard of it.

When I was about 14, some friends and I were ran out this chicks house by her dad. Spent the night in a cow pasture behind her house with nothing but a sheet to protect us from the Mosquitos. My friend was scared to get another curfew ticket, so that's the reason we didn't walk the 2 miles back to my house. How dumb were we.

And tenting out on Fourchon beach in September. Mosquitos were fricking terrible! But we were drunk and tried to man up. Applied a half of can if off. That seem to help a little.

I am not going to say it was the worst, that would have to be any of the nights I spent in jail.

I stayed in a apartment with no windows, only a partial roof, no water, lights, or food. for two weeks after Ivan in Perdido Key. I went down to a local school for water, ice, and MRE's everyday.

Stayed in some shitty hotels all over the country, and around the world. Also some shitty hunting camps here and there. But the worse was in my stepdaughters ICU room watching her struggle to stay alive with her mother by her side. She would wake up throughout the night, tossing and turning, with a blank stare in her eyes, can't imagine what was going on inside her head. With two young kids she want see grow up, and another half of her life left. Her husband had a impromptu babtism in the room the next day with all of our family and friends by her side. She woke up in the middle of it, and the look on her face,I'll never forget. She died hours later. Cancer

A cheap motel near the Anchorage airport. It looked pretty rough but was cheap. Bad decision. The only thing on TV was porn, the walls were paper thin and smoke and noise poured through. Cops raided the room next to me at 1 AM. My door was pounded on several times but I wasn't opening up. Turned out to be a mecca for hookers and drug deals.

Hmm - Spenard Motel and it's still open - a review on Tripadvisor:

hehe well me and my friends have been staying there for a week. its an awesome place for partying! the staff well some of them are cool once you get to know them. not far from the liquor store. thats a plus in my books! its not the best or cheapest but thats cool how they have all those movies but it sucks that they put two ridiculous pitiful looking turtles in the lobby. well id recommend this hotel for degenerates and younger adults

In a car in 35 degree weather with nothing except a t-shirt and shorts on. The wind was howling and the rain was at the level where it's just loud enough. Woke up every 10-15 minutes, and it was just miserable haha

1. Lost in the high Rockies.

2. Slumped over sterring wheel of my Dad's truck, passed out. Made it home, ran into planter, woke up when truck ran out of gas and heater quit.

3. Hotel in Cameron. Big sign in bathroom: "Do not clean fish in sink."

4. Hotel in Dalhart, Texas. Right next to feed lot. Big holes in walls so that the manure smell could waft in.

5. Bunkhouse at Charlie Hardison's in Fourchon.

Toss up between sleeping upright in a leaking Humvee during a rainstorm or a really shitty hotel in Alexandria that made me really rethink my life.
