Alcohol. Been sober since 10/24/21. Almost lost everything. Had to hit that bottom before I got serious about it. But yeah had 2 seizures from trying to quit on my own. No bueno.

Women.
It was more difficult than alcohol because its hard wired. Thank god I got old.

Compulsive gambling is right up there from what I've read.
It really hasn’t been that difficult to treat. The caveat being everyone I have treated for gambling has a good support group

Benzos without a doubt. I’ve been to ER 4 times due to having seizures from withdrawals.

As you are aware, there is an invisible line that’s crossed, and once crossed, there is no going back. I’d imagine it’d be pretty difficult to treat something like this where the default mindset of the addict is to use in spite of consequences and even against the instincts of self-preservation.

Looking back on it, I absolutely should have consulted my doctor about getting off Klonopin. I white knuckled it from 2mg to 1 mg, then consulted. At the time, I was so afraid they'd make me check into an addiction center.
I'm shocked I didn't have seizures...or maybe I had some small ones and just didn't realize it.

1 mg a day decrease was still a significant withdrawal?
I’m obviously asking for personal reasons. I’m prescribed 2mg day but usually take 1.0-1.5 day. This thread has me pretty concerned. I figured a decrease from 1.5 a day may need a bit of a a taper but not at risk of seizure.

Obviously you felt the side effects because that would be a weird thing to lie about but I have never heard of anything like that. Going from 2mg to 1mg if Klonpin should not trigger anything close to that. Maybe a harder to fall asleep for a few days

For me, every .5mg had its struggle. I tapered .5mg every two weeks, then got to 1mg, and felt like I needed to give my body and mind longer. I went a month using 1mg and I’ve been taking .5mg for about two months now. I’ll kick that soon.
After consulting my doctor, they wanted me to taper every 10 days from 1mg until I was done. After having experienced what I did every two weeks, there’s no way that would have been possible for me.
Do it slowly, and how you want to do it. Only you know your body.
Seriously, best of luck. Come back and post if you need help.

It was very real. But again, I think my taper should have had longer periods. I white knuckled a 9 day shortage. Going from 2mg to nothing was awful…when I got my refill, I just started the taper to 1.5mg.
But I also took this for 15 years. Maybe not so bad for people who take it short term, like it’s intended for.

Damn, only took a few posts to find mine. I ate a bag a week forever, just stopped about 5 years ago.

I went from taking 8mg of Xanax a day to completely stopping cause I would run out. Yes I had a severe problem.

still trying to quit alcohol.
I come from a family of drinkers and growing up I thought I'd never have that problem but at age 22, all of a sudden it had me too.
I don't have the shakes or anything but have awful withdrawal feelings.
I'm not to the point where I have to have to function. That is how you know someone is fricked if they've reached that stage. I've seen others grow through it and wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Without question alcohol. Habit was over a handle a day. Miserable existence. Miserable. Used pills every once in a while.
Total time drinking was about 20-21 years. Abusively 14 years. Around the clock the remainder.
First rehab went as First rehabs do. Relapsed within a month of leaving. Worst 32 days of my life. First 5 days was spent in detox. Never seen anything like it. Downtown Houston.
Second one was at a super strict facility in Austin. Got the implant did 2 ketamine treatments. Relapsed withing 10 days.
Third stint went well. Did 4 months in halfway house after that. Took beyond ketamine, and the implant. Once you are physically addicted and I mean really there, pray because that's what you got.

The DT’S are very tough. Took me like 2 months to finally got a grip and the rest has gone ok. I did not go to any meetings or treatment. I did this on my own cold Turkey. The one thing that had helped me the most is that I quit because I wanted to… nobody forced me…

If you don't want it for yourself you will be doomed. Thats a fact.
