Forget flies, what do tics and skeeters bring to the table that is of any use?

What is the purpose of the fly?
They have no purpose, they have an ecological niche.
It turns out, life in general has no purpose or meaning in and of itself.

The mosquitos purpose is to kill humans. It is the undisputed champion of that feat.
Nothing else comes close.

I don’t know but whoever named it way back used the simplest, most straightforward approach maybe ever for naming something.

Yellow jackets, as they forage for nectar or prey on insects in flowers, may incidentally transfer pollen, thus contributing to pollination, especially for self-pollinating plants.

My favorite fly, the Eastern Hornet Fly:
This one is a friend to any gardener trying to raise tomatoes. It is the Hornworm Tachinid Fly, and parisitises the tomato hornworms that can take out tomato plants.

The fly was the first place I went to when I visited New Orleans around age 23 or so. The night prior, a big storm came through, rumors of a tornado touching down. Anyway, Tulane and Loyola canceled classes for the day. It was amazing out there, smoking bongs, playing drinking games, frisbee, etc. An endless sea of coeds. Needless to say, I moved to the city shortly thereafter.
Now I’m old and hang out at The Batture.
