Slippy,
I missed a step going down the stairs three weeks ago and hit my foot in a lower step at a bad angle.

My foot has been hurting and is swollen. Should I seek medical treatment or just let it heal naturally! I can’t imagine they can do much.

Why would you think a foot doctor wasn’t needed?

One of my dad’s friends was one and acted like he was an MD.

My wife broke a bone in her foot. She had surgery by a podiatrist, put in plates and screws. It healed fine and she has had no problems.

What I don’t understand is podiatrists are not M D’s so how can they be licensed to do surgey like that.
If I had been in charge I would have advised an orthopedist do it.
She’s a N.P.,the podiatrist office was in the same building as the clinic she worked in so it was her decision.

Only see a podiatrist for ingrown and infected nails, fungus, etc.

NEVER let a podiatrist do any form of surgery unless the podiatrist is a partner with an orthopedic surgeon.

Podiatrists do not go to medical or D.O school. Most couldn't get admitted and chose the Dr. Scholls path. Podiatry much like chiropractic are not regulated by the medical community.

The only semi reliable way to evaluate competence is if an Ortho clinic will employ or partner with them.

Good luck

I have watched a few YT videos of them digging out ingrown toenails. But if it's is resetting mis-shapen toes and such, I'm out. Also not a fan of them sticking that 3 in long needle 2-7/8" into a heel and working it around.

What I have learned about podiatrists is that they can do all sorts of things that you don't think they can do. Give it a shot, man. And find a female podiatrist. They seem to love feet.

Not in the same stratosphere of credibility as Chiros.

Podiatrists, while not a M.D., often are surgeons and take call in most major medical centers.

I knew a podiatrist who was quite the heel. We didn't get along and he became my arch-enemy.
