Desert Storm. I had no idea what was going on, but I remember “Support Our Troops” bumper stickers everywhere and family members leaving to go to Iraq. It’s probably what started my reverence of the armed forces and why I ultimately became a history major in college.

Cuban Missile Crisis. We were afraid they were going to blow up oil tanks near New York in our town.

9/11 happened during 2nd grade. That definitely eclipses any other news event I could partially remember.

The bomb at the 96 olympics in ATL. Although I have some vague memories of Middle East military actions.

Not a breaking news story but for some reason I remember a news special about about the 35th anniversary of D-Day. We we’re having a garage sale that day and my mom was selling a black and white, probably 13” or so, TV. She plugged it in and connected the antenna and had it on during the sale to show it was working and that was the show on. It was the first time I learned about WW2 or probably any American history for that matter outside of the Pilgrims. That’s always stuck with me.

My first memories are of the Gulf war, like I said, but the first real shite that I vividly remember was the Clinton impeachment, and 9/11. I didn't exactly spend my childhood days parked in front of the TV watching news.

I can now frick someone born after 9/11

I had already graduated from LSU, moved out of state (to NYC actually) and moved back before 9/11 happened.

Lol. I guess that's how I felt when my 13 year old niece said she had never heard of Hurricane Katrina.

I vaguely remember something about the Kennedy assassination on TV, which happened when I was 2 years, 8 months, was probably later than when it actually happened but it was all over TV.

I also remember seeing a home run in the 1967 World Series that my dad was watching because it went over the Green Monster.

I could not remember paying any attention to anything between those 2 events, which is odd because a lot was going on.

I have a daughter that age.

I remember when aids was first becoming a big story in the early 80s and being sufficiently terrified having sex with an unwrapped peen as a teenager
