Great Smoky Mountains NP is amazing and has some very legit hiking.

I'm glad folks like it, but I think it nails the term "overrated."

As I said before, to say there isn't any beach in KW would be inaccurate, Smathers Beach while not the biggest is hard to beat for beauty.

Two of those three aren’t Smathers beach. Smathers faces East so you couldn’t look out and see the sun set over the water. I’m fairly certain the fist pic isn’t either. No one who lives in KW goes to Smathers except maybe to watch the fireworks fourth of July

Plus, when we went in late May 2019, we stayed at a hotel right on Smathers Beach. The freakin' Sargassum seaweed was pretty bad, it looked more like this than those pictures. And man, did it STINK!:

Cabo

I don't like the beach, or Mexicans, or partying. I might be the most miserable person on the planet. Even I was able to enjoy myself in Cabo.

I would say Broken Bow, OK.

Really? I don’t see the world flocking there but it’s a neat place for a short drive from LA or TX.

Hawaii is beautiful, has some great beaches, cool things to see/do and has a laid back vibe but a middle class family from the East Coast taking 3 flights for 14 hours and dropping $10k for a week long vacation is probably going to be disappointed, especially if they go to Oahu. Hawaii is where upper class people from California go to chill out and take a summer break from work, kind of like their 30A.

I'm really curious what some of you would define as an adequate travel destination. Maybe you're focusing on the word "overrated" and not necessarily criticizing the destination but saying it isn't ranked correctly. That's not the feel of the thread though.

30A, Gatlinburg, Disney, and Vegas are all places anyone can have a good, memorable time. If you don't enjoy them, you either have some kind of refined taste that requires a ton of money or are a curmudgeon.

I have no desire to go here again. I would if I was meeting family or friends, something like that, but I wouldn't choose it.

I can't imagine there are too many people that would prefer to travel to a shitty Texas beach over Cabo

The point wasn't all about preference as a matter of a better beach. I'd prefer Thailand after all, or Hawaii, or whatever.

The point was more that TX beaches are over 3 hours or more drive away from most of Texas. A flight to Cabo is 2.5 hours max.

As much as I hated working industry events in Las Vegas, if your expense account can handle it you'll have a memorable time.

Orlando is just a nasty tourist trap.

I don't agree with you much but when I do - it's over shite like this.

For a trip to Hawaii you should schedule a minimum of 2-3 weeks to really enjoy it. A month would be optimal.

c'mon man let's at least give practical advice.

We're not Europeans with 3 months vacation.

I'd agree. There are a ton of things to do in Nashville for the first 2 days...after that...it really goes down hill pretty fast.

A long weekend is all you need there really. Who would go there and spend a whole week?

shh, I live in King William District a block from the Riverwalk and it's a beautiful and vibrant area with lots of great restaurants and bars. The pace here is very relaxing and I personally love the Mexican and German culture. We take the golf cart to eat great Mexican food in south town barrios (an area that might spook tourist, but it's mostly harmless in daylight hours). Those who mention SA from coming to conventions really have missed some of the best parts of SA if they're staying and eating on the Riverwalk(also there is ALOT of Riverwalk that's not "downtown and full of drunk tourists).

According to the O-T, every vacation destination appears to be “overrated”.
