Young guy I know died in a car wreck with two other guys. Driver was drunk.
I was at the house of the guy I knew and listened to his dad on the phone with the dad of the driver offer up money to help with that kids funeral cost. No grudge or anger about the guy driving drunk. Just wanted that family to have some peace of mind that their son would have a proper burial

Seriously, that’s awesome to be able to take care of parents like that

my dad died 18 years ago and was pretty much out of circulation for about 5 prior to that with Alzheimer's and I still occasionally run into someone when I go back home that tells me how my dad really helped out their family in some way when we were growing up

I’m sure he didn’t think nothing of it, just being a good person

he and my mom grew up dirt poor during the Great Depression and he ended up having a pretty successful business, they were always about helping others, without fanfare

I work maintenance at a 140 unit condominium. I notified my boss who is the HOA president that I was going to rehab for 3 months and asked him if I would have a job when I got back. He said don't worry about it your job is safe and good luck. I get sober and go back to work. Well unbeknownst to me he and the other homeowners raised some money for me. Came out to little over $13,000. Nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.

In 2019 I was in a bad accident and was in a coma for 6 days then hospital for 52.
During that time thousands prayed for me. My wife and kids never had to cook a meal because there was a food train set up and people delivered food to my house for them. 2 retired teachers in our family came to our house to stay with and home school our kids. My wife received gift cards so she didn’t have to search for a meal while in the hospital. People donated money, fixed stuff at our house, the list goes on.
I’m not the type to be overwhelmed, but I will never repay those who helped us. Never.
Most of all their prayers helped me survive when I should’ve died.
There are way more good people in this world than bad. We need to stop obsessing over all that is wrong and focus on all that is good. If we simply took this one step, our world would be unrecognizable

A friend of mine paid for me to go to college. Tuition, monthly stipend and he would always save me fish when they went offshore to eat.

While in school my old car broke down and a girlfriends ex -father in law gave a car to drive for a year.

I’ve been very fortunate.

A local sheriff's deputy was killed in the line of duty 3 or 4 years ago. Both he and his wife had bought their vehicles from us, so my company took $30 out of every car we sold from then until both of their vehicles were both paid off, to take care of her.

That's just off the top of my head. We were just talking about it briefly yesterday. One of my coworkers just sold a vehicle to some longtime personal friends of his, and one of their kids has some serious medical issues. My coworker is going to set it up so that they get $50 towards his care for every car he sells for the foreseeable future, and he sells a lot of cars. He's a fantastic guy.

Monty Hall was on Marc Maron's WTF podcast. Monty said he went to college for a year but ran out of money and came home to work in the family store. A customer, a single man, found out and paid for Monty to go back to college with three stipulations. 1) Keep at least a B average, 2) don't tell anyone, and 3) do the same for someone else one day.

Marc asked Monty if he honored the part about doing the same for someone else. Monty said he had paid for college for multiple people. Talk about paying it forward.

Nice work on tricking your wife into believing you're doing her a favor. Everybody knows the edges are better than the doughy middle roll.

There is one little one I do every year. It’s not a big deal but it makes me feel good.

About 7 years ago, driving up from my parents place in SW Florida, I stopped at a little coffee shop/diner in north central Florida for breakfast. There was a guy in there with obviously serious developmental disabilities. All three of the waitresses stopped by to talk to him. I noticed he didn’t pay.

I ask my waitress and he comes in almost every day and then kinda spends the rest of day wandering the town trying to find people who will chat with him. Every day he comes in they take his tab out of the pooled tips. Good people to do that when this is not exactly a place where these waitresses make a lot of money.

So that day I left a $100 tip on my $9 tab and now do so every year on my yearly trip through.

Soooo not a big deal, but it makes me smile and covers 7-10 of the meals they buy him. I give more money to other charities, but I don’t know, this one actually makes me feel good

Most families probably have a similar person, but I have witnessed my oldest sister's generosity toward my mother's care. She give much of her free time to my mom, who is 88 years old. My sister's husband is in poor health and between the two she carries a heavy burden.

There are six other children in my family, me being one of them. Combined, we do far, far less than this one sister. I like to pat myself on the back for monetary donations but I never give my time to anyone. It is my most valuable resource and I keep it all for myself.

The people that give their time and talent are the most generous among us.

I don’t think it is all that generous but many people tell me it’s a huge deal.
My wife and I have allowed my BIL and SIL and their 3 children to live with us for several years. We helped them get out of CA and find jobs here in TX…they lived with us rent free for about 2 years, moved out for 3 and then recently moved back in 3 years ago. This time around we charge them a small amount of rent but no other bills. It has been very rewarding for all involved.

My wife went through chemo and a serious surgery and out little private school community did this for us. Had a meal dropped off every day for three months.
In addition to how great that in itself was, I got to meet a lot of new people because of this who became long time friends.
During this time we were ending up with too much food so I would pack up an extra lunch container many days and bring it to a co-worker friend who was going through a divorce and was struggling. Great way to pay if forward.
