In the past, circumcision (removing the foreskin on the penis) has been suggested as a way to lower penile cancer risk. This was based on studies that reported much lower penile cancer rates among circumcised men than among uncircumcised men. But in some studies, the protective effect of circumcision was no longer seen after factors like smegma and phimosis were taken into account.

So after taking into account two major factors that are associated with an uncircumcised penis, things are basically the same? Or, you can opt for circumcision that greatly reduces the need to even worry about those other factors.

Eta way to stand up for your baby, dad.

I'm not a father, and I don't intend on becoming one.

The fact of the matter is I am against the mutilation of an infant's genitals. Period.

If you baws want to get circumcised once you are adults and can make a conscious decision on your own, then please go right ahead and do so. I will never protest your right to do whatever you want to your body and your reproductive organs.

quote:

The origin of male circumcision is not known with certainty. It has been variously proposed that it began as a religious sacrifice, as a rite of passage marking a boy's entrance into adulthood, as a form of sympathetic magic to ensure virility or fertility, as a means of reducing sexual pleasure, as an aid to hygiene where regular bathing was impractical, as a means of marking those of higher social status, as a means of humiliating enemies and slaves by symbolic castration, as a means of differentiating a circumcising group from their non-circumcising neighbors, as a means of discouraging masturbation or other socially proscribed sexual behaviors, as a means of removing "excess" pleasure, as a means of increasing a man's attractiveness to women, as a demonstration of one's ability to endure pain, or as a male counterpart to menstruation or the breaking of the hymen, or to copy the rare natural occurrence of a missing foreskin of an important leader,[5][6] a way to repel demonesses,[7] and as a display of disgust of the smegma produced by the foreskin. Removing the foreskin can prevent or treat a medical condition known as phimosis.

quote:

According to Hodges, ancient Greek aesthetics of the human form considered circumcision a mutilation of a previously perfectly shaped organ. Greek artwork of the period portrayed penises as covered by the foreskin (sometimes in exquisite detail), except in the portrayal of satyrs, lechers, and barbarians.[22] This dislike of the appearance of the circumcised penis led to a decline in the incidence of circumcision among many peoples that had previously practiced it throughout Hellenistic times.

quote:

Jewish Practice of Circumcision

The ancient method of performing metzitzah—metzitzah b'peh, or oral suction[38][39]—has become controversial. The process has the mohel place his mouth directly on the circumcision wound to draw blood away from the cut. The majority of Jewish circumcision ceremonies do not use metzitzah b'peh,[40] but some Haredi Jews use it.[41][42][43] It has been documented that the practice poses a serious risk of spreading herpes to the infant.[44][45][46][47]

Many of the medical benefits associated with circumcision have been debunked if proper hygiene is upheld by the male (which is not the laborious task that many of you make it out to be).

Also, many of the proponents of circumcision in the modern era used as a method of curtailing sexual pleasure in order to limit supposed sexual deviance. It's quite comparable to the removal of the female clitoris in various equatorial African nations.

2 Infants Diagnosed With Herpes After Ritual Jewish Circumcisions

They were circumcised using the direct oral suction technique practiced by some Orthodox Jews eight days after their birth, and developed lesions on their genitals shortly thereafter, the Health Department said.

American Cancer Society says otherwise

It does not say otherwise. The statement basically reads that reducing phimosis and smegma reduce the rates of penile cancer. Both circumcision and hygiene are effective ways of reducing both smegma and phimosis. Yes, evidence points to hygiene being roughly as effective as circumcision for reduction in rates of penile cancer. that is one reason why it is still basically up to the parents rather than pushed for/against by any major organization.
Last I recall, the AAP basically says, to recommend it if they're considering it, but if they're opposed after understanding risk/benefits then it isn't worth pushing.

Like one of the LLotOT said one time(and I paraphrase), "they may not say it to your face, but after having relations with a woman, they and their friends are laughing about your uncut pecker"

That alone does it for me.

Until the HPV vaccine is accepted and given at greater than the <50% clip that it is given now, the benefits of circumcision still outweigh the risk.

But that is really the only medical issue supporting circumcision in this country. And it could be pretty easily rectified if not for anti-vaxxers and naive parents.

Some of us take into consideration what women think our penises. Sorry, but I don't want girls laughing at my kid's peepee behind his back.

As I said, there's only laughter if the little feller can't deliver.

Basing your tastes off of women's opinions rather than the other way around is pretty low-status, IMO ;)

Does that make this any less factual? Maybe one person reading this thread will question why they blindly follow tradition and mystics on some medieval practice because they're too afraid they can't raise their son to be confident without having a mutilated penis.

Lol and I mean L O L at anytime justifying this barbaric practice because they are afraid their kid will look different.

Your argument against is an example of an incredibly rare method that likely no one on this board will ever use? Nice.

I'm just saying you don't need to post something, and then a few posts lower on the same page in a thread repost the info. That's hackish behavior.
