Male nurses have no trouble finding jobs. Most units/hospitals especially love hiring male nurses.

The nursing field in general is just a huge wide spectrum of different types of work. It isn't always just working at the bedside in a hospital. So many different roles to assume. And yes...you can use your nursing experience and further your education to go into more specialized roles that pay $$$$(ex: nurse practioner, CRNA, etc).

If this program isn't a BSN program...encourage her to look into that as well after she becomes an RN.

I have no clue what this means but I will be sure to ask her about it

I could not have done it without such a supportive husband though....so be as supportive as you can of her is all I can say

Things aren't always perfect but I definitely understand the sacrifices she's making... plus I get to spend as much time with our son as I want to so she can study and my right forearm is JACKED these days

Seriously though, I will forever be grateful of what's she's doing - with all due respect she isn't a Rhodes scholar by any stretch of the imagination but she worked her arse off and graduated with a 3.5 GPA and a 2 year old . She's my hero

Every one I met is. Hell, even my cousin is nurse and she cheated on her husband.

I just asked my CRNA brother-in-law. He said the hardest part was deciding how many bedrooms he wanted in the house he's paying cash for.

Also...kids and old people will still call the male nurses "doctor" instead of nurse

It's a stressful job at times. Sex is a great stress reliever?

You also see a lot of fricked up stuff at work(social issues such as child abuse, people dying, etc). More so than most people in other jobs. I think some nurses internalize all that and deal with it by being promiscuous.

Agreed. Nurses and strippers are two professions that are fun to frick but never date because they're probably getting railed every time they go to work.

I don't know what it is in the military because I've never looked at the numbers, but male nurses are very few and far between. Have a friend who was enlisted for 15 years and then went to college and got his nursing (while enlisted) and then became an officer. Retired after 25 years and is making bank. We had a very similar discussion and before he got married he slayed so much tail it was crazy...not that all of them are great looking but they are there for the picking. Military nurses are the worst...well, maybe...but I've been down that road a few times.

If the nursing assistant is busy(or you don't even have a nursing assistant), yes they do. No task like that is "beneath you" as a nurse. Granted....if there is an aide helping you they can do this to give you the time to care for your other patients. But it's not like you can sit at the nurse's station reading a magazine and just tell the aide "go clean up room 5 he just shite himself". I mean you could...but you have forever made an enemy with that aide as well as shown what a horrible nurse you are to everyone else.

Nurse, in your experience, does any of this hanky panky take place in the hospital?

If you did two years for the LPN program, does that count as credit towards the four year BSN program?
