I just don't get replacing vowels with a Y.

I mean it is stupid.

The article another poster linked explains this

quote:

Anything you just added a ‘y’ to
Kaytlynn’s the top offender here, but so are variants like Addyson, Paysley, Eryn, Allyson, Jessamyn, and Jessyca.

“Y” is not a magic letter you can substitute for any vowel sound. Moreover, your kid is going to be saying “It’s Eryn with a ‘y’” for the rest of their life. Don’t you think that might be a tad bit more annoying than going as “Allison K” for a few years in elementary school?

Also love her X explanation as well...
quote:

Anything that starts with “X” because you like that letter and think it is cool
Sorry, friends who gave their children decent “X” names a few years back. Now they’re too trendy to live. Xenon, Xarina, Xavier, Xava — no. And worst of all, you cannot just substitute “X” for other letters and expect that to work. Xeraphina, Xexelia, and Xachary are not real names for real humans.

One time coaching girls travel sports, I had a team of 15 girls. All of their names ended with the same "short E" sound

Examples:
Kaylee
Chloe
Bailey
Mary
Zoe
Brailey
Hailey
Katie

That’s hilarious. What’s really funny is there’s a boy my daughter’s age two houses up who’s named Maximilian.

I’m not sure how this hasn’t been said, but the equivalent to travel ball for boys is Cheerleading for girls. Cheer moms are flat out insane.

100% serious question: when and HOW did this new trend of names start? I’m mid 20s and all of my peers have traditional regular names.

Honestly it's more annoying than some african american names I've heard. At least they are creative. These name are just a lazy way of telling everyone you consider yourself country. Like naming your dog Chevy or Remi (short for Remington)

I don't think it gets more traditional than Mary imo for a girl's name. I mean...it was good enough for the mother of Christ after all.

Go to Prairieville. Brayden, Jaxton, and Braxton are like William, John, and David.

One of my cousins knocked up a chick and they named the child Brayden (poor kid). Parents split up (shocker) and the kid is now like 13 and they call him "Bray"...yes the noise a damn donkey makes. I've never met the kid once.

The child and his mom live in Prairieville.

I agree

My sister in law named her daughter Aria. Means air in Italian or a solo in an opera.

While it wouldn't have been a name I would have chosen myself...it's really grown on me. And at least she didn't make up the name or add some x's and y's to a classic name.

I think where we went off the tracks when it comes to kids names is when men stopped naming their kids and women took over this job.

It’s in a woman’s nature to be super competitive when it comes to their kids being more special and more cute than other women’s kids. So when one woman has a child and gives them some sort of edgy name other women have to outdo them by giving their kid an even more edgy name. It then progresses from edgy names to edgy names with edgy spelling. The results are we now have a generation of kids who have absurd names.

What are you talking about??

My mom picked my name and my dad liked it so he agreed. VERY popular girl's name in the late 70s. She was torn between my name, Elizabeth, or Stephanie. All traditional yet popular names at the time.

I would imagine women have been picking names for a long, long time...Especially if the baby was female.
