I have a Patagucci nanopuff that works for me, if it’s really cold I’ll layer a sweater underneath it, but’s it’s kept me warm in mid 20’s windy conditions in NYC.

This is a broad question. Do you want soft shell? hard shell? Down? Synthetic? Minimalist?

I knew you would have good taste here.
I prefer Canada Goose, but to each their own.

Ask again in November. I'm sweating just thinking about a wool coat right now.

I have this to wear with professional attire. Barbour to wear with jeans/chinos. Beaufort unless you’re a short baw, in which case you should go with the Bedale.
I think my Canada Goose is great but is probably overkill for Louisiana. It’d be necessary if I were taking public transit in Chicago or New York or someplace then walking a few blocks to the office, but I’m rarely outside long enough in Louisiana to need it. It stays in the closet with LNCHBOX unless I’m heading somewhere ridiculously cold and know I’ll be doing a lot of walking.
