It's an artificial method of curbing grade inflation rather than trying to fix why grade inflation occurs. It's stupid.
Could be worse.
My wife went to William and Mary where they had strict grading rules to curb grade inflation.
What results is their GPAs all look like shite compared to schools who don't have those rules.
Of course, the school is academically respected which may counter this a bit, but I can't help but wonder what it looks like when an alum from a similarly situated school without those rules is going for the same job.

I had about a 2.9, would have been ablut a 2.2 with this shite.

I'm in the same boat. Have 3 A's and 2 B's which arent going to change much no matter my scores on finals. Instead of getting to mail it in this week im fight to not end up with a 3.2 with 3 A's. Blew my mind when i did the math last week.

Same reason they changed the MCAT. It was getting too hard to differentiate students. Too many 3.8 - 4.0 GPAs.

I'd say over half of their grades would be, which is really all that is needed for what I'm saying to be true. This would be especially true for socially competent A students who have a life outside of class.
Even if you want to accept that as a given, that is kinda the point.
Why do you deserve the same grade coasting as someone who is working harder than you? All this does is close the 10 point gulf.
And it's worth noting that in spite the backhanded insult, there are those who are just plain smarter than you that are "socially competent" and have a life out of class.....and still make higher grades than you with little effort. It's not an either/or here: that you either have a life or you are locked in the library studying.

In order to make a 98 in every single class, then you either have a 155 IQ or you don't have a social life. I don't see how it's possible unless you are absolutely brilliant.

You do realize that isn't to get a 4.0 though, right? I would be with you if that was the case.
That would be a 4.3.
So you can still attain a 4.0 even if you get a A- somewhere.
If your argument is that you don't like the fact that now the top grade is a lot harder to attain....well then
Too many people get the University Medal as it is.
And it still isn't your scenario
1) the requirements to get an A+ will vary. For your legit hard coursework it could be as low as 70.
2) Most college students on the upper end of the intelligence curve study at the last minute. Most of my friends didn't even open a book till the day of in some cases.
Again, there is a large opening between studying more and being locked in a library.
You can easily attend all of your classes, and study enough to ace everything inside of 8 hours of coursework a day for weekdays. And I'm being very generous with saying 8; it is probably a lot shorter. Most kids simply don't (not that I blame them, and I didn't either FWIW).
It would require more effort and dedication, but don't sit there and act like you need a genius IQ or miss out on the college lifestyle to succeed.

bro as i realize i'm past my peak i realize that the biggest thing that being smart has done is make me good at finding ways to do the least amount of work to reach whatever level is necessary (which isn't a good thing)

shite, I knew 5 people in my major who could do it.
And the major wasn't basketweaving either.
But yeah, they all had Einstein level intellect.

#1 best advice for all college students: night classes
ESPECIALLY night classes on monday. every semester should have one Monday night class

It raises the standards.
For everyone who has already graduated, your degree just became more valuable. Just as all of you are saying "glad I got out before this" - it's true.

we went to LSU, not Harvard or a public Ivy
our degree isn't worth that much and nothing is going to make it increase in value enough to make statements like this

It takes away the benefit of being able to relax for finals when you have a high A or B and just need to pass to keep the grade. That sucks. Lol.

Agreed.
I still think it was a part of their reasoning for doing this.
TOPS will be lost by more students, meaning lower retention rates. This might actually backfire on the school.
