Scruffy has a family member there right now in ChemE and 4 B's and 1 A equates to a 2.7. Just a bit surprising.

If few other schools have the same grading scale and most have the 10 pt grade scale, what is the benefit of this system?

It helps the Super-Nerds and fricks over everyone else. No other reason for it. So glad I left Ole Miss the year before this was implemented.

It suppose to make it easier to differentiate the high achievers (A+) verses those who just perform well (A, A-)

Knowing what I did at LSU, one thing it does is prevent students from mailing in their final.

How many times was someone at 98 and had to only get a 40 on the final to keep an A?

Or who had to get some impossible score on the final to get an A, but could keep their B by doing next to nothing.

Jesus. I'd hate to know what my GPA would have been.

And give you more credit for that 89.4 vs. that guy who got lucky and got a 79.5

Easier to differentiate for whom?

Doesn't this actually screw over LSU students when compared to other schools?

The only benefit is if you get an 79 or 89 they you would get a C+ or B+ which is worth more than the C or B you would have gotten in the old grading system. The drawback is that if you get a 71 or 81 then you would get a C- or B- which is worth less than the C and B you would have received in the old grading system.

Its nothing but a more accurate grading system, and as an LSU student I freaking hate it.

I don't see an issue here. If you work your arse off all semester, I believe you've earned that right.

But you're far more likely to get fricked by this than to be the benefactor. I can guarantee that 99% of people who didn't have to go through this would have a lower GPA than they currently do.

So 99% of students are in the bottom half of each 10 point grading scale?

It's an artificial method of curbing grade inflation rather than trying to fix why grade inflation occurs. It's stupid.

I didn't have a problem, but if the goal is to retain some sense of academic rigor and promote students to keep learning, then you'd probably lean towards forcing students into a position to continue working hard.

I, for one, am glad I didn't have to do that.

I'd say over half of their grades would be, which is really all that is needed for what I'm saying to be true. This would be especially true for socially competent A students who have a life outside of class.
