True story:

Guy I know took his bike to that Sturgis rally up in South Dakota. This guy is just a weekend rider like you were talking about but he gets all dressed up in the leather vests etc.

Well unbeknown to him he was wearing some kind of color combination or something that he shouldn’t have been that represented some legit biker gang. Wasn’t the Hells Angels but it was like the Gangster Disciples or Mongols or some shite. They beat this guy down. Did a number on him. He honestly didn’t know but just goes to show you some of these leisure riders try too hard. He ended up ok just had to get stitches and had a few chipped teeth.

How was he trying too hard? Isn't leather the best functional option while riding? It's not just to look cool.

I don’t know what biker Gang it was. He didn’t either. He wasn’t trying to pretend to be a biker. Just an honest mistake.

Well apparently he was wearing something he wasn’t supposed to be? Just going by what he told me. I told him he is lucky it wasn’t worse. Felt bad for him he is just a regular guy.

Harleys are impressive in many ways. But if want to ride long distances, get a big Honda - like a 1800cc Valkyrie.

Had one for 10 years. Only trips to the shop were for scheduled maintenance

For many of the well-established clubs and associations, Harley ONLY is allowed.

Loud bikes warn others you are around. Much safer than quiet. Also radios make the ride enjoyable. Headsets are insanely dangerous to have on while riding. Get mad all you want. My cruiser has a radio for me. Dont care if you dont like it.

Can't you get a helmet with built in bluetoof speakers that still lets you hear what's going on around you?

Some do. I dont like them. With a stereo I can hear traffic around me and it's a back drop sound. In headsets it is louder than traffic. Just not worth the risk for me personally. I dont turn my stereo insanely loud though either and turn it down when in traffic. Just have it loud enough so I can personally hear it.

Meh. It’s performance I enjoy while riding comfortably. I can take it down a gravel road or trail and it doesn’t bother me and it handles as good as a crotch rocket. I can put hard bags on it and ride wherever I want and carry all I need for extended periods of time.

Some people buy a bike and ride.

Some buy a lifestyle and ride.

I am on my 2nd Concours14... Great bike in that its nimble enough for fun but stout enough to carry across the continent.

This is the truth about bike riding (of any style..)

You either get it or you don't... no explaining will make someone understand...
