This doesn't make sense. Hospitals can't just let people stay there when the are "perfectly healthy". Also, insurance policies, including Medicare, will not pay for the hospital stay of someone who is healthy.
At around this same time, I knew a man that was terminally ill and dying with cancer. Hell, they wouldn't even let him stay in the hospital. When he would have issues, he would go to the ER. They would treat the issue and tell him, the insurance company will not pay for him to stay there once the issue is resolved. They would try to buy him a day or 2 by putting something in his diagnosis, but that was it.
How in the world did a hospital allow your grandpa who was perfectly healthy to stay in a room for over a month? And who paid for it?

Well, I didn't want to call him out so directly....
But his story is impossible to be true. Otherwise, any old person could walk into a hospital, plop into a bed, and say "I ain't leaving until I die, DWI".
Why would he make up such a story and lie about it???

I can tell you for certainty that it happened. I'm not sure if it was an exception or what (the doctor had been my grandpa's doctor for decades), but it happened. I'm talking about a rural hospital in the country of Missouri.

Why would he want to die in a hospital? They're terrible and for people that are trying to live. He should have locked himself in his room.

Answer your own question: Why would I make this up? That would make less sense then why I decided to post it here. I mean, I must have a vividly descriptive imagination to make up a story like that for the OT. Why would I do that?

I'm just telling you the truth. It doesn't happen that way. Hospitals are in business to fix sick people. Open beds are at a premium. Like, big time.
They will admit someone on complaints, no question. But once the tests are done and returned negative, you're out. Anyone that wants to simply die is referred to a nursing home, or home health care at their home, to eventually hospice.
So if all that your grandpa wanted to do was will himself to die, why wouldn't he just lay in his bed and will it, and let everyone come to his home to say their goodbye's and whatnot? Why would he want to be in a hospital bed if he simply wanted to die?
No offense, but the story doesn't add up.

Well, if you're anything like your grandpa (God rest his soul), for attention? He had to be pretty attention starved to be physically and mentally in perfect health, yet required lying in a public hospital bed to be waited on by medical staff until he eventually willed himself to die.

Uhhh...this rural hospital had several vacant rooms. Once again, my grandfather was a long time patient and friend of one of the head doctors there. Plus, he admitted himself due to "heart pains" and for all I know his doctor played along just to comply with Grandpa's wishes.
The doctor told us privately that Grandpa was fine. But when it came to paperwork, for all I know the doctor made something up (such as heart problems).
I don't know those details. That's between my Grandpa, my mom and aunts, and the doctor at the hospital.
All I know is it's a true story. Every bit of it.
