To give an actual answer, the book The Disaster Artist goes into this quite a bit early on(the memoir of Greg Sesetaro who played the friend Mark in The Room.)
He talks a bit about starting out as a model and feeling pretty aimless and how hard it is to transition into movies from being a model.

I had a guy hit on me at the Cadillac Cafe (RIP) years ago by telling me I looked like I could be a JC Penney catalog model. In hindsight, I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not.
Anyway, I’d imagine most have other jobs. Or do minor acting work like commercials.

I know a 6 year old that works catalog jobs. She gets $1900 per session in the Tampa area. The money is going into a college fund. Her dad has limited her to 1 job per month. She's very popular because she is small for her age. She looks 3 or 4, but she is old enough to take direction and photographers love that.

I applied for work as an underwear model. They looked me over, and said "you'll do" but you need to put a potato in your underwear."
When I came out for the photoshoot, photographer yelled "the potato goes in the front ..."

I had a similar experience, I came out and they said "you were supposed to wear our underwear, and the brown side goes in back anyhow!"
