So you are trying to convince yourself and us that you are more intelligent than your buddy who has better grades in a tougher major than you because he couldn't "describe a building?"

envy is a sign of a lack of intelligence.

For 2 months, I spent every day talking with 2 astrophysicists about astrophysics.
Couldn't have come close to doing their math stuff. I knew the concepts, but couldn't prove it like they could if asked.

There's different types of intelligence brah. Some guys are dumber than a sack of rocks but can figure out a way to fix damn near anything. Some people couldn't use a screwdriver but can solve abstract problems like nobody's business. Some people aren't good at much of anything but are amazing musicians. Etc, etc. All are types of intelligence and all have their place.

Never said that. Never said I was smarter than him. I never commented on that at all. I said his answer made me start thinking about the issue.

Assuming things is a lack of intelligence.

Seeing the world in three dimensions. Not just spatial, but having knowledge, knowing how to apply that knowledge and successfully predicting the outcomes. I can read about some subjects for years and never truly grasp the concept.

I have to make assumptions every day when solving engineering problems.

Am I unintelligent?

Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Knowing lots of facts doesnt make you smart, it makes you educated. Just about anyone can become educated if they try, not everyone can be intelligent.

What is intelligence.

Intelligence is the ability to learn. That includes the ability to learn academic information, the ability to learn from mistakes, and common sense plays a role too.

There isn't one aspect of intelligence, but just because you know a lot, doesn't make you intelligent.

Yep, you're born with it or you aren't.

Just in general, I find people that are great with academic information are low on common sense and the reverse is true as well. There are some pretty balanced individuals though. Generally like with testing skills in the classroom, the people that have a good balance of academic skills and common sense do the best.

Oh, you're the Internet guy who is trying to convince everyone how intelligent and deep you are by asking about intelligence deeply.

Carry on, genius.

Could not have said it better. I've known too many people that thought they were so intelligent b/c they had more advanced degrees.

A kid at my high school HAD to have the best grades. Absolutely busted his arse to do it.

I made mostly A's and a few B's without even trying.

I thought that kid was going to off himself when I smoked him on the ACT and on all of the tests to see who would represent the school at the literary rallies

I used to have a neighbor that was/is a Math Professor at UL. He was extremely intelligent but had no common sense. We lost power in the neighborhood one day and he came to me in a panic because he had no power to open his garage door and had an important meeting to attend. I unlatched the chain for him and lifted up the garage door. That being said, he was way smarter than me and a great guy...just lacked common sense.

Are these really assumptions? Do you use experience, education, and a process to come to an answer? Assumptions are based on zero proof.

Everyone makes assumptions. And in my experience, most of the assumptions I see every day lead to poor decisions?
