At&t execs are too busy hanging out with Obama, watching the olympics, and not giving a frick about baton rouge

frick you AT&T. I was on in Central this morning helping via boat with my buddy. First responder gave me the address of a person believed to be stuck in their house and needed rescue. Not being from the area, I figured I'd just pull up the GPS and enter in the address. Pull out my phone to a NO SERVICE tag on the top. We had no idea where to go and had to wait for further assistance. Burns my arse up.

An estimate or statement would be nice. I still can't find where my wife's grandmother is.
No service still just internet. Speaking of which no statement from Cox yet either. Would help take a load off of ATT if we didn't have to use cell to communicate messages.

Wouldn't let me make some outgoing calls today and tonight (in New Orleans and on the Causeway). I kept getting a recording that said "your call cannot be completed at this time." Eventually I got through but took 15-20 attempts both times. Seems like they've got issues beyond areas that flooded

Cox has once again failed during a "high need" situation. Services badly needed but failed. Pitiful.

At&T's switching equipment for the greater Baton Rouge area took on water Saturday morning. They had to shut the network down. They are bringing in equipment from other states and bringing service back. Their shite always fails when you need it the most. One reason I switched to Verizon years ago. My guess is it will be a couple of weeks before its back up 100%.
Why wouldn't they place it on the 3rd floor of a data center? That's unbelievable.

My sprint phone has done great, I don't know why more ppl don't use them. Can't beat the prices and coverage is good and don't lose availability in times like this.

All of ATT's competitors have. Sprint, TMO, and VZ all didn't miss a beat. But the largest one with the most subscribers failed pathetically. That's real bad optics.

Does BR emergency services use AT&T? We went through the same thing after the tornadoes in 2011. I was told that when service has been damaged and the system is overloaded, the government has priority. I don't know how true it is but a member of our local police department told me about it.

Normally, during an emergency, there is tons of extra activity with first responders, loved ones checking in, and people relying on their phones to monitor progress.
When I had T-Mobile, I got texts ahead of time warning me that coverage would be spotty.
I've been through hurricanes and flooding. I don't wish these experiences on anyone. I feel bad that I could only donate money to help.
Thoughts and prayers to all who are impacted.

Surprised.
Tracfone here. Best, cheapest, reliable.

That sucks, dude. I'm sorry. I have some better luck with Verizon, although I seem to burn through a lot more data, which may be a concern, depending on your needs.

Most of my family has AT&T. I have Verizon and calls I initiate won't connect. I have to text them to have them call me. It's fricked up

I asked the same question in a roundabout way last night, and two douches replied laughing and saying how dumb of a question that is. Somebody else gets it.
Most, if not all, New Orleans businesses moved their data room to upper level floors after Katrina. Flooding happens. Not only to save the hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace the wet equipment, but something so vital as a switching facility that enables the entire area for cell phone usage? And they really think it's a good idea to have it at ground level? Really?!

This. My co-workers are mostly AT&T. They thought it was finally fixed but as it turns out, they can make calls but not receive them.

I have verizon and tried calling my father in Mississippi. He has AT&T and I kept getting all circuits are busy message. I am in Cut Off far from any flooding and he is in south mississippi also far from any flooding. It's fricked up regionally apparently
