BIG city? 4 million plus metro. Only city in the south I'd classify as big is Atlanta.

Not sure why you guys are thinking Atlanta is a big city. If you base it on population then Atlanta is a medium size city. If you are including Metro Atlanta area, then you are looking at a much larger population number. I would only consider Boston, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and SFO the "big cities" because they are extremely urban and populated.

Louisville sits at around 750,000 (I think it's closer to 600k without the "metro") and the way it's spread out it feels like a medium sized city but not necessarily "big".

I consider places like Atlanta, Miami, and Houston as big (not exclusive to those, just going off the top of my head).

Houston isn't really in the South, and Miami certainly isn't.

Stay away from Mayberry! Tough arse town, that one.

Big City: Any place where there's tons of people and tons of crime.

Louisville's a strange one - similar to New Orleans or Cincinnati in that it was, at one time, a much bigger (relative to the rest of the country) and more influential city, so it definitely has a more urban feel than other cities its size, but it doesn't have a pro sports team (at 1.3 or 1.4 million metro, it is, along with Las Vegas and Austin, one of the largest metro areas in the country without one) and has a relatively small airport and doesn't get a lot of the big entertainment acts (though that seems to be changing some with the new arena and Forecastle). Like Cincinnati, St. Louis, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Pittsburgh (other cities who have experienced this phenomenon), it's a city of neighborhoods.

The restaurant scene is top-rate, though - definitely compares favorably to a lot of cities with much larger metro populations.

The reason I said that was because nobody had mentioned Phoenix yet. A lot of people are going by this "big city feel" assessment...

a million people in the metro area.

2,000 is a town.

If your "city" can fit into an arena, it's not a city.
