What is "being a professional" to you?

Someone mentioned that some people at work were not being professional and that if you get paid, you are a professional and should be held to a professional standard. Someone else countered that it's a mindset and a character thing and a self respect in how you present yourself to others.

Handle your shite. Follow through on your promises. Treat everybody with respect. Don't make the other guy's job harder than it has to be.

Having the best beard among all employees.

All of this.....and mind your own business.

The hardest thing for me after starting to work with civilians again was to realize that not all civilians welcome a military sense of humor. I guess military humor is not that professional.

Carry yourself well, not saything things like baw or slang when actually speaking. Making sure all your work gets done in a timely manner.

It varies somewhat from profession to profession. It's little things. Being on time, being consistent with your production. But I've found with people who have worked for me that it can't always be learned. A lot of it is a personality thing. And some people are just jackasses

If most employees just followed these 4 simple things, life would be just splendid.

Someone who works in a profession. Which is a word used way too loosely these days

I don't think it can be said much better than that.

Agreed.
Moreover, a professional in my mind is someone who is in an occupation that consumes more depth in their life than a job. Not necessarily a good thing, but someone who doesn't simply show up, perform a task for money, and leave. Typically involves some degree of independence, work outside of the office/beyond typical hours, outside licensing/continuing ed, etc.
I don't idolize the concept of a professional, sometimes having a simple job would probably be a better life.

Don't wear a baseball cap to work, wear clothes that fit well and are clean and wrinkle-free, and don't say "baw" or "bruh"
