The Little Chef was near the courthouse. Was not the quality of ours.
Little Chef in all seriousness was ok, knew the owner. We sold the Big Burger to the Devillier family around 1969 if I recall correctly.

Was that the little drive-in. I remember getting burgers as a kid at a drive-in somewhere.
While I never lived in Opelousas I spent many weekends and summers there as a kid.
I haven't been threw town in quite a few years, Not sure I want to either.
Last trip I discovered my Grandpas old house on Creswell is now a sex toy shop behind the Rasing Canes.
I am sure my Grandmas turning in her grave over that one.

No drive in. Was located at the old A&P area on Union St. You would not believe the number of hamburgers we sold at our three places.

Of course! Now I remember!
They had a fantastic barbeque beef sandwich served in this kind of wax paper wrapping. Damn. That was good.
You are triggering all sorts of childhood memories now.

Just north of Richards (and the A & P) on the corner was a tiny little grocery store in a brick building. Anybody remember that?

That BBQ beef sandwich put many pounds on me. Was our most expensive item. Was 89 cents if I remember.

marinos.
I used to love the smell in there when I was a young kid, it always smelled like bread.

I think that store was Marino's. Back in the day, Italians owned almost all the corner grocery stores in town(were great people).

I'd consider giving my left nut for one of those right now. I've never seen it's like.
Graysons in Clarence has BBQ beef that is as good. But they don't have the same bread.

My father was almost a fanatic when it came to ingredients. I remember when a salesman tried to get him to buy a cheaper product for malts. He admitted that is was not close to the same quality but was cheaper. Salesman got run off. We peeled fresh potatoes every day for fries, nothing frozen.

Hell I am so old, I remember when the OHS band closed every half-time show with Dixie and a Battle Flag was paraded onto the field and everyone stood up and cheered. Don't think that would fly(pun intended)now.

My School used to play Belmont and ABW in sports back in the 80s and early 90s.
Man that brings back some memories.
