Do they drink wine, whiskey etc...? Do they like to cook? Hard to suggest without knowing much about them or your price range. Are you trying to give them something lasting or simply a nice gesture?

Yeah, depending on your price range you can get some nice items from Saddleback Leather or something similar.

Beer brewing kit for the dad. Did that for my FIL two Christmases ago. He enjoys the hell out of the hobby, and now every time I go over there he has some new beer he's concocted ready to go. It's pretty awesome.
