My wife will get a seasonal cold here and there just like any of us would. As many alluded to, tons of hand washing, sanitizing, not touching the face, etc... I assume that doctors just have much better general practice with these actions than most common-folk.

does she credit the strength of her immunity system to being around these sick folks all the time?

Have you ever seen a doctor at Walmart or Golden Corral?

I didn't think so.

Uhh....I don't know. Maybe.

I'm sure there is some case study out there that has statistical data on whether or not doctors have some giant count of white blood cells vs. the non-doctor. I personally think it's just the attention to hygiene. I'll ask her when she's back from the store.

pretty sure you can get some illnesses simply from breathing in.

Yep. And if a doctor thinks they are at risk of catching something they wear the proper PPE.

My son is a top gut doctor. He swears you won’t get sick if you just avoid this one vegetable.

Washing hands and understanding the illnesses’ mode of transmission helps. Plus dumb luck... sometimes.

We are around sick people at all times and build up immunities. We also wash our hands about 80x per day.

Plus, we just come to work when we are sick. We take OTC meds and work through it.

Went to Dr last week for bi-annual visit. Seems like the whole place was sick. Dr, nurses, staff... got me sick too for first time in a long time. Must have been a nasty bug.

I haven’t gotten a vaccine of any kind since starting medical school...which, ironically, is the last time I got sick...20ys ago.

I wash my hands and my stethoscope after every patient encounter. That’s about it.

At the hospital I work at and the affiliated clinics...we always offer masks to patients that present with a cough (in the ER and clinic waiting areas) . We are a high risk TB area so that’s why we do that. But it also keeps other respiratory illnesses from being spread around.

When I was at the bedside I always put a mask on when a patient had any sort of cough.

Not a doctor but whenever something is going around I load up on zinc lozenges. That slows viral reproduction and gives me immune system a head start if I'm exposed to anything. I usually have either a very short and mild episode or don't get sick at all.

Wait....you are an ER doc but haven’t gotten a tetanus booster in over 20 years???

The same shot you likely order all the time if a patient can’t remember the last time they had a tetanus shot and they have a nasty laceration.

Wash your damn hands. The majority of you don't after using the bathroom.

I don't care if your dick is clean. Every single thing you touch is loaded with germs before you get to the bathroom.

I never get sick. And that started over 10 years ago when I originally got my servsafe to work at a restaurant. The majority of the food born illness, or what people claim as food poisoning, is from you not washing your fricking hands. Not the restaurant.
