You have to run a 21 minute 5k to be this? Lol

Agree. 25 is very good for a beginner. Keep it up, mouton

Honestly if you are a beginner and running 8 minute miles or thereabout I'd say that's very decent. Keep it up

For a beginner runner? I have only been running for about 3 months running 2-3 times a week 3 mile runs. Never time myself but did today and it was 25:25. This was with me really pushing myself . I'm only 5'8" if that matters. Don't see how you guys do it in under minutes. Much respect.
That's not a bad time.

23:30 is a goal of mine. The last mile is the one that gets to me.

Anything sub 30 is good if you're just starting. With 3 months worth of running sub 25:30 is pretty dang great.

A decent 5k time for a beginner is 21 minutes. 25 means you are very out of shape.

25 is very good for a beginner. I bet the average American can't run a sub 30 minute 5k. We have become fat and lazy as a society.
But this is the OT. Get the hell out of here with your slow arse 5K time.

Look, if you don't have PF in both feet and shin splints in both legs while training for a double marathon you are a pussy and not a runner. You should be rehabbing injuries for 9 to 10 months a year if you are serious about running.
Actually that a really good time for just starting, stay with it.

Pretty good in my opinion. I ran my first 5k last summer at 39. I finished in 27:37. I got hung up in the crowd early. I was running on my own just under 27.

What is a decent time for a 5k?
In the Savannah summer around 730 in the morning is decent.

Tons of good advice here over the years if you search "5k + tigerdroppings".
My one bit of advice for racing is SLOW down early and speed up at mile 1. This is critical for new runners because you will go out too fast.

How much do you weigh? Are you out of shape? Decent shape?

What beginner is able to hold a sub seven minute pace for over three miles?
No one. That should be a goal for a regular person who has been training for several months. OP is doing fine, especially for 41.

The average American is horribly out of shape and would probably be lucky to walk a 5k half the time in around 40 minutes.

5'8" 159. Work out five days a week. Run 2-3. Decent amount of muscle low bodyfat. I've always just had shitty endurance. Probably because I was a smoker in the past. Started running to try and improve overall endurance.
