What if we found alien life?

The thread on the discovery of water on an alien planet gave me the idea for this thread. Let’s say tomorrow NASA holds a press conference to announce they have verifiable proof of alien life. How would this affect you personally? How would it affect society as a whole?

It depends on what they look like. I highly doubt that there is a chance of life out there considering all of the factors that Earth has to be in just to sustain life between the ice caps.

Either I suppose. How would you react to them finding a fungus in space? How would you react to them finding a civilization similar in advancement our own?

If we found it NASA would keep quiet. The military would take it and try to use it to figure military advantages. They would have to keep it hidden, somewhere nobody goes, like in the desert. If rumor got out, they would have to fence it off, threaten people that came close, and call it something low-key, like Area 56.

You’re probably right. But the whole premise behind this thread is to ask what affect it would have on you personally and society as a whole if it was announced alien life had been confirmed to exist.

I’m not expecting anything. The thread about finding water on a “earth-like” planet 100 light years away just made me start wondering what would be the result if Scientists announced they’d discovered alien life.
