What has the historic spread been for retail regular vs premium gasoline.

I happened to see it was $1.20 difference at a station I was at this morning.
Subtle brag that I woke up before noon.

Less subtle that you drive a vehicle so fancy it requires premium gas.

I did not say I used premium. Just noticed the price. Subtle brag that I can do math.

You need to find another gas station with those price differences.
I use premium in my motorcycle and it is usually about $.40-.50 difference in price at the stations I use like Shell, Texaco, Chevron, but not as big a difference at Costco.

I've just started noticing this recently. It's a little crazy to see it here.
Chevron in Sandy Springs was selling premium for $3.79 last weekend. I guess rich people don't even pay attention. I'm *mostly* in that number, but $3.79 did catch my eye.
Makes you wonder how good that "regular" gasoline everyone else is using actually is.

This was a Uptown place I usually avoid as I am a Costco regular. The place is usually about .40 a gallon or more higher than Costco on regular.

Forced induction FTMFW.

Premium is only really required on engines that have a compression ratio higher than 10.25:1.
Ie forced induction, high compression high horse power engines.
BMW V8s will do fine on 87 as long as they aren't M badged.

Same, turbo car needs to run 93 octane for peak performance.

I was in my everyday car because like I am going to use gas with ethanol on my Ferrari Laferrari Aperta.

It really is cool. You can still get the MPG of a plain 4-cylinder if you drive right. Not a myth, at all.
Related to this topic, I've become much pickier about gas stations lately. They are mostly run by Indians or Ethiopians where I live, and the second group of stations is uniformly better.
All in all there should be much better regulation of these fricktards.

As a Kid I worked at a Shell Station. 26 Cents for regular and 33 cents for Super. Then came "Super Regular (mid- grade)that sold for 33 cents and they went to 36 cents for Super.

The spread has widened a lot recently, but $1.20 is ridiculous. Where it used to be $0.10/gal, it is now in the $0.15 to $0.30/gal range. The big reason is Tier 3 gasoline standards have lowered the sulfur specs from 30 ppm down to 10 ppm. Refineries are short low sulfur and high octane streams compared to higher sulfur streams, so the product is more costly.

I remember cutting my gas costs by removing a broken catylitic converter on my '78 Buick Regal which allowed me to use leaded. I loved that car. 5.0 liter V8 and you aimed more than steered.

This is how I remember it years ago. The price increased .10 more than regular gas for the middle grade and then another.10 on top of that for super
