That’s one of them funny things about kids.
They get hungry all day and night no matter if it’s good times or bad times.
They don’t wait on a check from the Fed’s.

I assume you can reduce your payments if your income drops. Isn't the calculation based on how custodial time is split and relative income, with the latter being less than it was a few months ago?

Correct, but you have to go to court to adjust the amount. Guess what's not open right now, and when it does open, there will be a HUGE back log of cases.

You don’t have to go to court. You can apply for a recalculation thru DCFS.
One of the first actions I took after my divorce was finalized was to go to DCFS and request they adjudicate the CS payments. If I ever fall short, DCFS will work out a payment plan or garnish my wages
I cut a monthly check to DCFS and they then pay my ex. This ensures accuracy and protects me from being accused of skipping payments.
DCFS will review and adjust payments at anytime a parent requests it.
You’ll need to provide 5 monthly paystubs, tax filing, and any receipts proving payments for childcare expenses including insurance premiums

I was posting from a State of Alabama viewpoint. I am in no danger of not meeting my child support payment, but I am extremely confident that if I ever got into that situation, it would be a lot harder to get it reduced than what you stated. Thankfully, my nutty ex WANTED payments to go directly to the State. I could see her playing the "I never go his check" game.
In you scenario, which I assume is correct, someone will still have to accept, review, and adjudicate the the request. The courts are pretty much shut down.
Alabama still requires a physical check to be mailed in. No option for an electronic payment. Side note: I called the Circuit Clerk Wednesday at 1pm concerning a civil suit. They had let everyone go home for the day at 12pm, due to thunderstorms. Ain't government great!!

I have my kids half time and still pay 1750 a month all based on calc. If I get laid off I’m adjusting that based on what I have coming in. I’m told I can fill out a form and file with court myself to temporarily reduce support. So all you take care of your kids asses can kiss mine. Child support is based on communist principals. Both parents should be equally responsible if you are 50/50.

I go to the courthouse and sign a form. They take it from there. Not sure what they do but suddenly the child support is in my checking account.
