When I was in retail they just got thrown in a compactor. Wasn't a bookstore though and maybe 100 total a month, probably more like 50.

Back in the day, if I started a new magazine subscription, inevitably the first issue I'd get would be last month's issue. It would be all tattered and of course your 12 month subscription would reflect this.
So, i took it, I'd get some magazine that had been returned from the newsstands.

I know the unsold magazines in the Jackson area were sent back to the distributorr were sold to a recycling center, baled up, and sent to a roofing company.

When I was a kid, my dad knew a guy that serviced the racks.
My dad would bring home Mad and Cracked magazines as well as car, hifi, etc magazines. They all had the covers missing but were otherwise fine.
Loved it.

This is correct. Mine has all this. But the plastic grocery bags usually don’t make it that far.
