Look there is a lot of hoodrat stuff here
But I've lived here my entire life and spent countless hours surrounded by felons on our congested interstates and have never had anything resembling this encounter

Nobody goes there but gullible tourists.

We had the kids with us, so why would we go to a different part. Your comment is stupid ‘tourists shouldn’t go to the tourist area’

But I always laugh when the Atlanta threads pop up bc I think of my bad experience there - and the other few times I’ve been were ok

I lived in Duluth/Lawrenceville
Last weekend I finally tried out that seafood joint on the square that you recommended to me years ago.
9/10
Thanks for the rec, I never would have guessed there was an actual good fresh seafood place in Lawrenceville of all places.

The worst thing about Atlanta is there are too many people from Georgia living there...

I always laugh at how absurdly fake that shot is. I know it's TWD and supposed to be exaggerated... but Freedom Pkwy is 6 lanes wide as opposed to 10, that bridge in the midground doesn't exist, and there is no railroad track anywhere close by.

You didn't want to learn Spanish or Korean?
You ain't kiddin'! The wife and I moved from Duluth to escape living in South Korea. Then Lawrenceville became an extension of Norcross and Spanish became the predominant language (with a few eastern Europeans scattered about for flavoring).
Yeah, I like it out here on the Carrollton/Haralson county line where the predominant language is red-neck-ese. I can stay fluent in my Spanish by visiting construction sites every once in awhile to check in on the jobs.

It's the EXACT opposite of this actually

Depends on what you call “Atlanta”
Based on what some people have posted. It is much like a smaller version of Houston where Houston is only an hour away from Houston.
And using that same logic, Atlanta is an hour away from Atlanta.

I certainly wouldn't take kids to that area. You should have just gone to Eastside Beltline area plenty of stuff to do and kids everywhere with their parents.

We wanted to go to the Coke museum - that’s not over there, so irrelevant

Haralson County is a great area. I grew up in Gwinnett County first 12 years of my life in the 80's and 90's and its unrecognizable now. Its sad really was an awesome place once upon a time.

Even today, when I run into someone who grew up here, I’m fascinated.
“You were born in Marietta and went to KSU”, oh man what was THAT like?”

This can't be overstated.
Even as far back as 2008, I got hired on a new project, with a dozen other people, and during the orientation the lady is going around the circle having people talk about where they are from. Everyone was from somewhere else. When she got to me, I said "I'm from here". She said, but where are you from originally?. "Here.". But where were you born? "On Peachtree street at Piedmont hospital in 1978". For whatever reason the room bursted out in laughter, but it was the disbelief that someone could be working in Atlanta and also originally be from Atlanta or the immediate surrounding area.
As I worked there for years, in the whole office building (4 stories in Brookhaven), I only ever met two other people that were natives. Everyone else was from somewhere else. Not necessarily Yankees, but lots of people from the Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama.

I’ve never been there other than the airport and a quick stop 30 years ago.
Unlike a lot of people, I don’t choose to comment on cities that I know nothing about.

Well, this is a year old from the US census. It's just the city limits of Atlanta but saying ATL barely has a black population is comical.
