You bring him, I'll get Sabi and we'll let them go at it in a cage death match.

I agree on the Elk's Lodge. Unfortunately the lodge in Baton Rouge (490) became defunct due to less membership.

Mom and dad served the Elks in BR for over 25 years. The Elks place emphasis on serving Veterans and donating clothing and goods to the many Veterans home in the Unites States. Every month of a Friday night, the 490 lodge would have fish fries and music. The lodge funded two softball teams for kids.

The Elks help with scholarship funding and offer an annual hoop shoot content for kids 10-16 iirc. Kids shoot 25 free throws and compete with others in their age group and gender to advance to state and nationals.

There are still several lodges in southern Louisiana. If you become an Elk you can often obtain lodging in other states where an Elk lodge is active. Men and women are members. Dad was Louisiana state president in 1987. Good times.

The one in my area holds bingo.. I think on Saturday night. Well, I guess they still do, but this was 15-18 years ago. One of my friends convinced me and a few other people to go play Bingo one night. I think he just knew everyone would get a kick out of the crowd and we did.. but similar to what terd said, the smoke got unbearable. But that doesn't stop those old fricks with oxygen tanks from going.

Those people take that shite serious. I remember some old women sitting by us would break out a new marker after every 3rd game. I have no idea how long they last, but I know you can get more than 3 games out of them, but that old bitch would use it for 3 games then give it away..

Knew some guys that were in an American Legion MC a few years back. We met to discuss territory and to "break bread" and create peace we ran a train on one of the guy's wives. We passed her around for a good bit.

I tried the VFW for a few months. All they did was drink and smoke. We burned flags a couple of times. That's about it.

Do they though? I played 4 years of American Legion and we were fully self-supporting. Funny enough our parents actually worked a BINGO hall several nights a week. We were balling too--had our own Trailways bus painted up all White Sox(if you saw that West Monroe White Sox bus roll up to your field circa 92-96, you knew it meant your arse), had about 25 different uniforms, the best bats, etc... but I don't believe I ever met a single representative of our post or we saw a single dollar.

We did rent out their hall one night in college and threw one hella good EDM party.

Worn out American flags. The boy scouts collected them and brought them to us.

Back in the day when dry counties were more prevelant in some places, the American Legion was excluded from those laws. The only bar around.

Edit: I got the AL and VFW mixed up as well.

Sounds just like my nephew's description of his time with Occupy Wall Street.
