Well, Slick did sell out our country to China to line his own pockets. That's pretty tough to beat on the old "worst foreign policy president" front.
That’s true. Give him more time and it will probably get worse. He’s just been focused on screwing up domestically so far and is just now getting his chance to fully focus on foreign policy. Bush policy put us in a generation of war. He ran on a campaign of not nation building then commenced to destroy nations, which lead to quagmires and rebuilding nations while causing chaos, dissension snd destruction in the Republic party. We need a run of some Reagan and Clinton years again when politicians new how to get things done instead of just pandering to their base.

They need a buffer state. My suspicion is they will continue to hit strategic targets while NATO sits with their thumb up their arse and we send sanctions/thoughts/prayers. Russia will then withdraw with minimal loss of life and Ukraine will know that literally no one is coming to help them and do whatever Russia wants them to do.
A large part of the reason why NATO's containment of the USSR was successful was there was certainty about where its borders ended and where those of the Warsaw Pact began. Each side knew it couldn't push any further.
Post cold-war, NATO's borders have been constantly moving, and NATO's open-door policy means Russia can never be sure which country along their border will be next.
This uncertainty was always going to be a source of conflict.

Ukraine is friendly with America.
NATO backpedaling on previous agreement that Ukraine wouldn't become a member.
Russia will not allow NATO member in it's border (unfriendly military)
We would do same thing.

Remember when the US, only two years ago could offset Europe's oil and gas needs because we were the largest producer in the world, totally energy independent, >$2/gallon gas, and we were a net exporter with capabilities to aid our allies in times like these with energy instead of approving Russian pipelines while blocking them in our own country?
Oh.... I member. But hey... mean tweets and all...
You fricking trump tards don't even recognize when someone is 'on your side'
For frick's sake

Seriously? Why do this?
Start by paying attention to US foreign policy under President Obama. Our political meddling in the Ukraine and Syria severely threatened Russian military holdings and economic interests in the region. For the last decade, they have been taking action to secure their interests in the region.

It is a payback to the Obama administration. A re-setting of the strategic environment.

An easy invasion route to the Balkans, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland. That’s step 2.

Thank you. That was a very good explanation.

They get a huge buffer state, increase their oil and natural gas reserves significantly, and gain control of almost as much additional productive farmland than Russia currently contains. The Ukraine is the breadbasket of Europe, and most of the EU imports a significant amount of their foodstuff from the Ukraine (especially Germany). Once Putin establishes control over The Ukraine, he will not only have his buffer (The Ukraine is LARGER than France or any other EU country in land area), but he will have his boot planted on both Europe's food supply and fuel supply. Putin's political leverage over European affairs gets much MUCH stronger.
Remember, The Ukraine is not all Putin wants. Russia does not have a very well-functioning economy. They pretty much just grow what food they can, mine ore, make weapons, and sell energy. Adding The Ukraine gives them way more food to work with. Adding the Baltic States would give them even more energy, agriculture, several great ports, land access to Kaliningrad, and a thriving tech sector.
Thank you for an informational, reasonable post instead of just childlike bitching back and forth

"He wants to bring back the USSR" is what the "experts" will tell you on tv. The same experts that push the wars, the pandemic response, etc.
quote:
In 1939, the USSR regained the lands earlier seized by Poland. A major portion of these became part of the Soviet Ukraine. In 1940, the Ukrainian SSR incorporated part of Bessarabia, which had been occupied by Romania since 1918, as well as Northern Bukovina. In 1948, Zmeyiniy Island (Snake Island) in the Black Sea became part of Ukraine. In 1954, the Crimean Region of the RSFSR was given to the Ukrainian SSR, in gross violation of legal norms that were in force at the time. ~Vladimir Putin
Later in the interview he starts talking about Carpathian Ruthenia that became part of Czechoslovakia after the break-up of Austria-Hungary and how they voted to become part of the RSFSR in the USSR Proper, but were ignored. He doesn't want to bring back the entire USSR...just the most attractive parts.
