Depends on server.
If male, that's an auto -5% starting off. Right out the gate. Obvious Hygene plays a factor, if they are of help points can be earned.
If female, the line stays. If hot, add +5%. Etc.
In general females suck when they get in the weeds and shite hits the fan.
Yeah they may look good but 99.9% of the time they aren't going home with you anyway.

usually around 10% minimum, more depending on service

This is not true . . . It's called tip creep. In the early 1900s the standard was 10%. Over the past century it has doubled to 20%. I wouldn't be surprised if the standard risesto 25% over the next decade.

20% for good service. If you suck, I'll still probably give you 10%. I've left a penny on two different occasions...the service was that damn bad I wanted to make sure I got my point across and they didn't just assume I forgot to tip.
Highest I've gone is probably the $150 tip I left for the guy who did probably the best job I've ever seen when the fiance and I did the chef's tasting menu at a restaurant in Savannah.

That works well when the sales tax is 8-10%. In some places the sales tax is only 5%

At that rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the people bringing the food is making more than the people who cook in the kitchen.
Ignoring the rest of the post, this has always been the case.
Cooks only make a few bucks and hour, because anyone can do it at 80% of restaurants. I'm obviously not counting good restaurants that have true chefs.

I think it'll go the other way. Tipping is going to go down.

My buddy said that the normal is 20% now
Why would it increase to 20%? Since the tips are a % of total, isn't it already indexed to inflation?
I tip 15% normally. 20% for particularly excellent service or if I'm too drunk to do the math.

I've worked places that if your credit card tips were below 15% on consecutive days you will get written up and reprimanded
What place is this? Because that is a terrible policy. I have tipped with cash and paid with credit card many times.

Servers are trained the following standards:
10% - Poor service
15% - average service
18% - decent to good service
20% - great service
Solid scale IMO.

20% minimum. Or a dollar/beer 2$/mixed drink.
If I get great service though the sky is the limit (50%+)
Here's a tip. When your drinking at a bar (and your going to be there for more than 2 or 3 rounds), give the bartender 20$ and tell them your going to be there a while.
Guaranteed better service and stronger drinks.
When someone tips me up front at my bar, they're going to get served first no matter what a-hole is standing next to them waving their card around.

20%.
The math is easier to do in my head than figuring out 15%. Move the decimal to the left, then double it.

You sound like you're asking a question to someone returning from a vacation. You do realize that Vietnam was a war?
