I'm a "To each their own" kind a guy. If everyone was the same, life would be boring. BTW I shave my head because of male pattern baldness. If I didn't I would look like a bad taxidermy experiment.

And the majority of the long haired nerds I've met try to come across as the alpha dog. I really do believe they think they are chivalrous Vikings. The red headed ones are the worst.

I think long hair would work on a guy that looks like clay matthews. Otherwise no way.

I don't really don't do much thinking about men's hair in general; long, short, bald, brown, blonde, gray, etc.

Hardly.
It's a hair style. You can't pigeonhole all people who exhibit a certain hair style.
Some guys with long hair are some of the most alpha, masculine, and badass males you will ever encounter in your life.
Others are odd, introverted, artistic, or quirky.
One of my father's best friends is an environmental biologist in his late 30s. The guy has a pony tail and is one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet in your life.
My hair is currently shoulder length and I'm about to enter graduate school for exercise physiology.
This is like implying that all people with tattoos don't have real jobs. It's just frickin' asinine.

Doesn't bother me at all. I have long hair and a good professional job. Some don't care for it but that's their problem. I am in my 60's and proud to still have a full head of hair.
