What do you do if you're driving behind someone who's wasted?

Said person nearly crashed into an exit sign on the interstate, then a guard rail, was swerving all over the road, and generally driving like an a-hole. Is it a dick move to call the highway patrol?

ETA: This happened on the interstate at about 10:00 at night, and I called the highway patrol FYI. Just curious what others would do.

No, but I wouldn't unless I was sure I was dealing with a drunk driver.

The one time it was absolutely obvious (3:00 in the morning, erratic swerving, etc.) I called 911. Better to wake up in a jail cell, than to wake up dead or having killed someone else.

Or is it a dick move to let them go and a few miles up the road they kill someone?

Get into the passing lane, slow down a bit, log into TD and start a thread about it.

If I felt my life or my kids lives were in danger, you're gd right I would call the police.

No. If you feel like the driver is a danger, that is the right thing to do.

Why? Reckless driving is still dangerous without alcohol.

This was my thought.

I was pretty sure they were. Erratic speed, lane changes for no reason (sometimes with a blinker after they'd already changed lanes), swerving, braking for no apparent reason. I thought for sure they were gonna take out the exit sign. They were headed right for it and not slowing down, then swerved at the last minute onto the exit ramp where I think they may have hit the guard rail.

This. There are no negatives to just going ahead and alerting highway patrol. If he hasn't been drinking, then oh well, he got pulled over for driving like the dumbass, and might get at ticket, which is just punishment.

If he is wasted, then he goes to jail and everyone is safer, which is also just punishment.

What do you mean? I meant that I'm not going to call the police unless I'm sure they are a danger. In most cases, that means they are driving drunk (or on drugs, I guess).

I'm not going to call 911 on some dude who swerved because he was looking down at his phone. I'm going to assume he learned his lesson.

No. I've done it and even tailed the guy while the state police was on the phone with me so they could catch up as quick as possible.

EDIT: lol down votes. The guy went from one ditch to the other on hwy 167, his boat flew out the back of the truck and almost head on killed multiple people, but hey I'm the dick and deserve down votes.

Always call highway patrol. Better be safe than sorry and 8/10 they're not going to find them anyway.

The best move is to pull over and call 911. Why would it be a dick move? You could save someone's life.

Call 911 but be sure they are truly dangerous. If the driver crossed the centerline once that isn't really a good enough reason.

I called one in and tailed the driver after she had clearly been drifting in and out of her lane a couple of times. She eventually wrecked without taking out any other cars...thank God
