Not bad.

From Forbes:

An entry ticket to the 1% starts with an annual income of about $394,000 (says Berkeley’s Emmanuel Saez) or about $1.5 million in liquid assets (my zestimate). Post-tax and retirement savings, that’s about $220,000 a year while they are working. These are national norms. If they happen to live on the coasts or near a major urban center, as is more than likely, they might need twice as much money to crash into the 1% by local standards.

The successful dentist I am related to has a $600k or so home, owns outright his camp that's now nicer than my new house, center console bay boat, cleaning people, car washing people, landscapers, and owns outright the building his practice is in. Must be waaaaaaaaaaay upper MC.

would depend on how many kids you had, where you live, and how much debt. yes, if you are married with no kids, live in BF Louisiana and have no debt whatsoever aside from your mortgage, perhaps. Other wise, no.

I always consider it a family that has at least one advanced professional (doctor, dentist, successful lawyer, etc).

You're right. I was talking about single income too. Not combined.

Had a professor in college who proved this point but saying name some American families whom would be in the Upper echelon of social class. Someone immediately said the Kennedy's. Teacher used this as perfect example. The kennedy's would never be true upper ecehelon because family was rich from bootlegging and kennedy's would be excluded from top upper class. I can tell by many of the comments that ya'll have these concepts wildly confused

Median income does not equal middle class. Two distinct concepts.

I'd say upper middle class is combined family income is pushing 200k.

I think most of us know that actual class is different from the amount of money someone makes. I doubt people consider someone such as Lil Wayne to have class, but he definitely has money.

I'd say they have the potential to be upper middle class if they do the right things with their money.

I don't consider them different concepts unless you're thinking social class

I'm 26 and have no kids. My fiance and I make over 100k household.

I have barely any liquid income though because its all in Roths and 401ks or spent. I also don't own a home yet (next year probably).

I am not upper/middle class because I've had no time to save money. Income is not a good indicator, but rather overall wealth.

Brah the bottom feeders, ie cooks, galley hands, laborers, deckhands and divers are making $60k minimum. There are many many more skilled workers laughing at that number.
